A quiet walk through the woods can be a simple routine, but for Ohio-based visual artist and photographer Ryn Clarke Photography it became the catalyst for an enchanting visual language. 🌿🌸🦋

Born from lockdown walks where daily life narrowed to the blooming details of nearby trees and trails, Clarke’s series Fantastical Botanicals deconstructs the natural world and reconstructs it with boundless imagination. Manipulating scale, depth, and atmospheric perspective, Clarke allows flowers to loom like monuments, butterflies to command entire landscapes, and regional flora to mingle with fantastical elements. Blending rich digital composites with a sensibility informed by traditional darkroom hand-coloring, encaustic, and photopolymer gravure, her layered scenes sit somewhere between fine photography and visual collage. Rather than presenting nature as a static record, Clarke builds dreamlike ecosystems with their own internal logic—inviting us to wander in, look closer, and invent our own stories.

A rust-colored bloom unfurls itself in deepening rings of ember and wine, its heart lit with a soft, secret glow.
Silvered leaves stretch wide like waiting wings, while delicate antennae rise above them. Grounded by twin green stems sits a muted, textured background with a translucent rectangle framing the bloom like a specimen case...reinforcing the transformation of plant into insect.
