Small business owners... can we talk about the economy for a minute?
We all hear it, almost everywhere. "Customers just aren't spending like they used to."
People are being more intentional with their money, comparing prices and waiting a little longer before making purchases; and thinking carefully before starting a project, eating out, or buying something they don't absolutely need.
So what should your marketing do? Don't "shout" louder ---- Work on building more trust. Here are a few ways your social media can do that:
✔ Answer questions before customers have to ask them. Help people feel informed before they spend.
✔ Sell the value, not the price. Instead of saying what something costs, explain why it's worth it. Explain why it's worth it. For example, a contractor may say, "We build decks for $9,500." Instead, say, "If there are options to save money without sacrificing quality, we'll explain them. We believe informed customers make better decisions."
✔ Celebrate your customers. People enjoy supporting businesses that appreciate their community.
✔ Teach something. Every business has knowledge to share. Whether you're a restaurant, contractor, retailer, salon, nonprofit, mechanic, or garden center, your expertise has value.
✔ Stay visible. One of the biggest mistakes businesses make during slower times is disappearing from social media. If customers don't see you, they may assume you've slowed down—or closed.
✔ Take care of yourself, too. Running a small business is emotionally demanding. Step away when you need to. Recharge. Your business depends on your well-being just as much as your marketing.
Here's something I truly believe...People may spend less during uncertain times. But they still choose businesses they know. They still choose businesses they trust.
And they still choose businesses that consistently remind them why they're worth supporting.
Marketing during a slower economy isn't about convincing people to spend money they don't have. It's about making sure that when they're ready to buy, your business is the one they remember.
