JMarie Photography Fine Art photography. Original images of Yosemite, nature, and beautiful destinations. Let's go on an adventure together!

My photography is authentic, natural, elegant, vibrant, striking, eloquent, and TRUE. My clients are the fun and adventurous type who come alive under an October sky in the vineyard or walking through a wildflower meadow in the mountains. They are the kind of people who are just as comfortable in a suit and tie in the city as they are in hiking boots and faded jeans in the high country. If that de

scribes you, then you are in good company, because that's me too! My photography is focused on capturing real moments and emotions as well as the pulse of a location. You'll see a lot of rich colors, sculpted light, nature-inspired details, sweeping landscapes, as well as clean lines and geometric shapes in my work. But on top of it all is a commitment to telling my client's story in an authentic and visually inspiring way. You bring your smile, I'll bring the camera, and together we'll create something absolutely beautiful.

is exactly that: an old sugar mill that has been partially reclaimed for use as a and event center. Built in 1937, it holds a lot of history (and some spirits other than wine…or so we’ve been told.) Danny liked the . I love the light that filters into the high ceilinged rooms from old, dust coated transom windows. It’s a cool place (figuratively and literally); for some odd reason it always feels 5-10 degrees colder here than other locations nearby. Logically, it probably has something to do with evaporative cooling coming off of the River, but perhaps it’s a…ghost thing? 👻

We’re headed to the celebration at cemetery today. I dressed in my best catrina attire and posed in front of our pet (family memory altar). Very excited to see all the beautiful ofrendas, costumes, and cultural performances today.

I have really enjoyed learning about this traditional holiday of remembrance and have been thoughtfully incorporating elements of Day of the Dead into our own fall customs and activities. In many ways, I like it better than Halloween (SHOCKING!!).

Important symbols of the holiday are butterflies (rebirth and life after death) and marigolds (joyful color and pungent scent to guide all souls home). My dress is layered tiers of silk that fan out like marigold when I spin - I’ll see if I can get a video of that, it’s so cool! 🌼

Just some detail shots from a recent trip to Back in the Day Classics , quite possibly the best time capsule of mid century Southern California I've ever encountered. This place is absolutely insane! If kitsch and diner classic are your jam, this is your nirvana.

I took this shots leaving some copy space. Thinking I might incorporate the jukebox into our wedding invitations or signage...note the song at #13 ❤️💒

These two have only known each other 2 years, but they share a special bond that even I can't come between. I love how patient and kind Danny has been with Mila as she ages, helping her live each day with dignity and grace. His actions demonstrate the generous depths of his soul, and make me love him even more. ❤️

Note the difference professional gear and editing can make:

The first image was shot on my Canon 5D Mark IV with L-series glass and edited on my MacBook using Lightroom and Photoshop to achieve my signature editing style.

The second image was shot on my Google Pixel 3 phone and edited lightly using Pixel's native photo editing app.

Both images are beautiful moments captured forever! When I have the time, though, I like to use professional gear and editing techniques as I find this often produces the more emotional shot. And with photography, isn't capturing and communicating emotion what it's all about?

❤️Happy Valentine's Day!❤️

Few things in life are more rewarding than teaching someone you love how to do something that you love...and then watching them fall in love with it, too. Today I thought I'd share some photos of my favorite "student" (and, coincidentally, Valentine) whose creative eye and enthusiasm for photography has steadily encouraged me forward these past 2 years. It has been a real joy to watch him pick up a camera and develop his passion, one shutter click at a time. I'm ready to make art again, and it's all because of him. 📸❤

Sending my love to all of you and wishing you Valentine journeys that take you here, there, and everywhere! May we all spend the day doing what we love, with the ones we love. XOXO

I am in love with . What personality!! My heart is full remembering this hazy afternoon on the Central Coast, laughing at their lazy-to-crazy cycle of antics. Sleep peacefully, aggressively attack, kiss and make up, repeat endlessly. Their odd burpy bellows sound like a kid blowing bubbles through a straw in a glass of milk. It's for animals like these that we need to protect our oceans. I'd hate to lose something so magnificent. So wild. So cute. And frankly - so weird.

Slowly...editing these photos from my mini vacation to the California Central Coast a couple weeks ago. This one is of a baby elephant seal emerging from the sea. I was planning to share it in a series of elephant seal images (probably still will) but who knows how long that will take 🤣

So, an amuse bouche of sorts. The smoky skies gave the evening sun a rosy, otherworldly glow. Enjoy!

Flags and bells. We fly one to show our allegiance, we ring one to sound our commitment to structure and society. Because they are symbolic, neither are worth much in the absence of community. Because they are symbolic, both have been used to enforce the ideology of powerful communities upon the powerless. And because they are symbolic, both have repeatedly brought communities together in times of deep tragedy and resounding joy.

In this moment of rapid change to existing - and the development of new - symbols, I find it interesting to reflect on their duality. Every symbol has a yin and a yang. There is no absolute.

What symbols are important in your life? And what symbols do you find conflicting?
