Last weekend we had wonderfully clear and blue skies across the state and we got a chance to go enjoy them at the Oregon Coast. I brought out a new lens, strapped on the knee high boots, and waited for waves to break into my frame. I hope you can feel the fresh air from the coast in this shot 🌬️

Is it the milky way season yet? That's pretty much all I think about all winter long in Oregon. Thankfully, that time of going out for late night/early morning shoots is just about upon us. This was taken last year when Lost Lake had just opened and snowpack was still lurking along the shore of its surrounding forest. I used my 105mm Macro lens to take this very zoomed in panorama of Mt. Hood and the rising Milky Way 🌌

It doesn't get more precarious than photographing on a (hopefully completely) frozen lake. Once I got comfortable with the fact that if I wasn't going to fall through I was able to focus on finding ice bubbles and cracks that led to this peak in the distance. I hope you enjoy this chilly shot from a much warmer location than it was taken!

"Dead man's Cove"
I love this little cove and the lone tree that sits atop its tiny island. It had been 6 years since I had been back and now I'm kicking myself for not having returned sooner with a camera.

There's one aspect I never tire of with photography, and that is capturing water movement (especially on the coast). Every wave is different, the water texture changes as the water rushes in and out, and it's a pretty relaxing time watching it all unfold. I hope you enjoy this long exposure taken on a typical moody PNW kind of day 😁

Lone Pine Peak isn't the tallest peak in the Sierra Nevada but it sure commands your attention when you visit the Alabama Hills. While the tallest mountain peak is Mt. Whitney, Lone Pine Peak appears larger because it is simply closer to the Alabama Hills.

This photo was taken after a morning of snow and during a sunset that just kept giving amazing light.

Every now and then I get to witness awesome conditions unfold while I have the camera in tow and this one was extra special back in mid November!

Intending to just go out and test the new F2.0 6mm Diagonal Fisheye APSC (manual focus) lens from I had little to no expectations on conditions and just hoped for some moody PNW skies. After being in a veil of fog for 30 minutes, the sun lit up the clouds above and the fog cooked off to reveal this scene.

Now about this lens! It's a 6mm for APSC sensor which is 9mm for a full frame. The 220° view was really fun for unique compositions that I didn't think were possible without this lens. Fisheyes always scared me off because the image is usually a circle but this lens stretches the image to be a traditional 2:3 ratio. It's available for Sony E/Nikon Z/Fuji X/M43/Canon RF mounts and just launched on 7Artisans website: https://7artisans.store/products/mf-6mm-f-2-0-aps-c-lens-for-sony-e-fuji-x-eos-r-nikon-z-panasonic-olympus-m43

A moody Mt. Murchison taken during a day full of clouds and fleeting light. I went with a very desaturated edit on this photo that reminds me of being here in the PNW winters where sunshine feels like a distant memory. The sand was so beautiful along the shore of the Howse River that I kept chasing the ever-changing foregrounds around the base of the mountain.

The shipwreck of the Peter Iredale at low tide 🌊 I love timing the incoming waves and taking a bunch of pictures to find the best water texture.

Horsetail Falls clinging onto the last bits of Fall 🍂

I went out early this week to try and capture some fall foliage in the Columbia River Gorge and my first stop was Horsetail Falls. This waterfall is always challenging to photograph since it doesn't have much of a stream to shoot from (which is my tendency) and the area around it is pretty tight on space so unless you want to be sprayed by a fire hose, it's best to stay a little further back from it. I cozied up real close to these ferns to give the appearance I'm deep in the forest, when in reality I'm surrounded on either side by sidewalk and behind me is the historic highway. I hope you enjoy this last bit of fall clinging to the trees 🍁

Friday morning's sunrise was brief but intense shooting with my buddy ! This time of year is one of my favorite times to shoot sunrise because you can actually sleep in and still get out for sunrise around 8am. But all that goes away tomorrow after daylight savings time puts us back an hour😭
