I love networking, meeting new people, supporting local, and let's be honest... sometimes trading skills is way more fun than spending money. 😂

What am I looking for?

Literally anything.

Hair. Nails. Lashes. Ya know, girly stuff. Baked goods/Sourdough goodies. Homemade goodies. Business services. House cleaning. Car detailing. Lessons and experiences for thr kiddos. Tattoos. Vintage/antique items. Furniture. Outdoor fun stuff. Whatever you've got.

Shoot your shot. The worst I can say is no.

I'd love to network, meet some local peeps, support each other's businesses, and make some new friends along the way.

Did you know? This abandoned building in Center Hill, Florida has quite the history.

Most locals know it as the Potato Shack, but its story goes back much further than that.

Long before it became a restaurant, the property was owned by B.M. Hewitt and was used to grow sugar cane, tying it to Sumter County's rich agricultural roots. At one time, this area was known for its citrus groves, sugar cane mills, and thriving fruit-shipping industry.

Fast forward to the early and mid-1990s, and the building became the Potato Shack—a local favorite that gave jobs to area teenagers and became a popular Saturday morning stop for motorcyclists passing through town. Before it was the Potato Shack, it also operated as Jeff's Family Restaurant.

After the restaurant closed, the property was purchased by a mining company with plans to turn it into a training facility. Those plans never came to life, and over the years the building has slowly been reclaimed by time and nature.

I love finding places like this. Every abandoned building has a story, and this one is a reminder of how much history can be hidden behind weathered walls and broken windows.

Some places don't need a sign or a tour guide to make you stop, they just demand your attention.

Every time I drive through Inglis, this old stone building catches my eye. I finally decided to pull over and snap a few photos.

Nestled near Crackertown, just outside of Yankeetown in Levy County, this ivy-covered structure is slowly being reclaimed by nature. Even in its state of decay, it's absolutely stunning. The stonework, the architecture, and the vines climbing every wall make it one of those places that leaves you wondering what stories these walls could tell.

As it turns out, this isn't just any abandoned building.

Known affectionately as The Rock Store, it was originally built in the early 1930s using local stone and even petrified wood. It first served as a general store for the surrounding community before becoming Stephens Meats and Groceries, a beloved stop for locals and visitors heading to nearby Yankeetown.

After returning home from World War II, George and Geraldine "Gerrie" Stephens purchased the property from her parents and operated the store for decades, making it a true community staple.

Over the years, it also housed antique shops and local markets, adding even more chapters to its story.

After the Stephens, Carl Gene Mosley owned it. His Mom, Grandma Mosley, made homemade doughnuts, desserts, etc. In addition to the grocery part, he had a meat market.

The area itself carries its own piece of history, too. Nearby Crackertown was one of the filming locations for Elvis Presley's 1962 movie Follow That Dream, making this little corner of Levy County even more fascinating.

There's something special about old places. Even as nature slowly takes them back, they continue to tell the story of the people who built them, worked in them, and made memories there.

🌊 Hey Citrus, Levy & Surrounding Counties! 🌊

I'm Emy, owner of Turning Tide Photography Co., formerly known as Momma Bird Photography.

If you've been around for a while, you may recognize the old name. The new name comes from a major life change for my family. We recently packed up, moved to Florida, and started a brand-new chapter. Turning Tide felt fitting—not only because of our move to the Nature Coast, but because life has a funny way of changing direction when you least expect it.

A little about me...

I've been behind the camera since 2017, am a multi-award-winning photographer, and have had my work featured in magazines, news articles, and publications over the years.

Outside of photography, I'm a thirty-something stay-at-home momma to three beautiful girls and married to my high school sweetheart (or pain in the butt, depending on the day 🤣). If we're not working somewhere or on something, you'll probably find us at the springs, fishing, kayaking, exploring a zoo, trying a local restaurant, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
