I had a cooperative Swallow-Tailed Kite flying around the yard earlier this week and managed a few captures (these birds are tough to expose correctly). To my surprise, the bird returned with a mate and has been sitting in a tree in the front yard every day. These birds winter in South America and migrate to the Gulf Coast region every March to breed and nest. They typically build their nests in tall Pine trees, and I have several 😁. Fingers crossed they choose to nest close by 🤞🏻.

Went exploring to check on the local Eagles Nests and was rather disappointed to only find 1 active nest. There are typically at least 6-10 active pairs in the area but that doesn't seem to be the case this year 🙁. Overall, it appears to be a down year for the majority of bird species in the area........not sure why 🤔.

Love being able to capture the elusive Snail Kite hunting and feeding in a nearby lake. Up until a few years ago, you had to travel to Kissimmee and beyond to find Snail Kites.
The Snail Kite's beak is specially designed to pull Snails from their shells, and their long talons provide grip to hold on to the large shells of the Apple Snail.
