Sidewalks make life easy. They’re safe most of the time. They’re comfortable and we’re likely to see a friendly face. Sidewalks lead us in a certain direction or to a specific destination. Sidewalks are well travelled paths, but how can everyone only be headed in two directions?
By staying on the sidewalk, what are we missing? By taking the comfortable and easy path, what growth opportunities are we giving up? What adventures are we throwing away? It can seem like common sense to take the sidewalk. Some people call others foolish for straying from the paved path, however, as soon as you step off of that concrete square, you feel like you can breathe. Life doesn’t have to be Harvard or Princeton, city or suburbs, East or West. There are so many decisions, but life isn’t about this or that. Life is about your end point.
It is important to have direction in life, but remember that your direction doesn’t have to be the popular one or the one that is the easiest. In fact, God often calls us to take the difficult path because he wants to stretch us and grow us. In the moment it may be painful, and we as short-sighted humans may not understand the purpose in the moment, but you’d better believe that God will use your 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 for 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞. He will use your 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 for 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭, and your 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭 for 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.
At the end of it all, the journey is what makes you, you, and what draws you closer to God. Your end point isn’t actually an end, it’s a beginning.
