Matthew Zory is the assistant principal bass of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the rhythm section bassist of the
Cincinnati Pops. Before moving to Cincinnati in 1993, Matt served as principal bassist for the San Diego Symphony and Opera. He has played with the New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera and Phoenix Symphony and served as guest principal bassist with the Seattle Symphony Orchest
ra. His photography has most recently been shown in the Manifest Gallery's International Photography Annual, at the Carnegie Center for the Arts, Trillium Art Show and Findley Market's Internet Cafe. For me, the act of taking a photo is a meditative experience, there is only the present moment. Looking through the lens quiets the white
noise of daily life. When I am framing a shot -- whether it’s a tree or a waterfall or sunlight filtering in a window – my little corner of the world suddenly makes more sense. With the camera I have a chance to capture in light and shadow and shape that ineffable experience. Edward Weston once said, “You can’t explain a Bach fugue.
