The Light Finesser

The Light Finesser Photographer| Imagineer| An Experience | Creative Director The name ‘Give Me Face’ comes from my on-set personality.

I’m excited, I’m in action, I’m helping my subjects pose and most of all I’m always trying to bring out different facial expressions with my favorite phrase, “Give me face!” Facial expressions can make and sometimes break an image. Do you think the Mona Lisa would be THEE Mona Lisa if she looked uncomfortable or had a fake smile?

Cincy St Meet Rules: 1st, let me say sorry for the SLIGHT frustration lol.. I lay these rules out every year, YET every year after the event I hear the same complaints, I get the same DMs asking who certain ppl are, I get asked the same questions.

Rule 1 (and most Important): Have Fun! Network! Learn! Teach! Enjoy Being Around Other Creatives!!

Rule 2: Collect Your OWN Contact Information!

Rule 3: Don’t Be A-Holes. Don’t Ignore The Ppl Who You Created Content With.
Don’t BlowUp The Person You Created Content With. Be Kind To Each Other

I Hope This Helps!!

Cincy Street Meet is more than a yearly creative event. It’s 200+ photographers, models, videographers, makeup artists, and creatives coming together to network, collaborate, experiment, and push the boundaries of creativity. We don’t just want you to leave with great content. We want you to leave with new people in your network, new ideas in your head, and new possibilities for where your creativity can take you. It’s not just what you create. It’s what happens because you showed up.

Niching down doesn’t mean every photo has to look the same. You can shoot portraits in the studio, by the water, in the street, with flash, or with natural light. Portraits are still portraits.

The point of niching down is CLARITY.
When people know what you do, you become easier to remember, easier to refer and easier to book.
A wide net with smaller holes catches more fish.

What niche do you feel like people currently associate you with, and is that the niche you actually want more bookings from?

Adding depth in post is possible if you can’t do it in real time with the lighting you have on hand.

I see A LOT of photographers who’ll ask “what were your settings?” But another person’s settings don’t matter when yall don’t have the same lighting scenario.. However, YOU should have a basic STARTING point.
In studio using off camera flash, my starting point is, 1/160, f3.5, and ISO 200.

When I’m outside using off camera flash my goal is to cut down on the amount of ambient light a little, so I’ll adjust my settings accordingly..

Who’s ready for my next in person lighting class??
I’m thinking mid to end of July🤔

When using multiple lights, set your camera settings based on ambient light with off camera flash off.
Then you turn on the secondary lights (back light, rim light, hair light, whatever you’re using)
Then you set your key light.

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR CAMERA SETTINGS… You’re only adjusting the power of each light individually!!

Size Does Matter..🤭🤭🤭
I keep it super simple…

Generally speaking, the bigger the modifier, the softer the light, the more it wraps around your subject and the easier it is to light full body shots or multiple people.

The smaller the modifier, the more focused and controlled the light becomes. Great for headshots, dramatic portraits and situations where you don’t want light spilling everywhere.

Can you shoot a headshot with a giant softbox? Absolutely.

Can you shoot a full body with a small modifier? Yep.

But modifier size changes how the light behaves, how soft it looks, how much area it covers and how much control you have over it.

What’s your favorite modifier size and why?
