Currently, I’m sitting on so many beautiful galleries. Family sessions, weddings, elopements, engagements, motherhood sessions... so many stories I haven’t shared yet. My heart has just been more focused on creating than posting. Taking it one day at a time. I havent posted in a month and when I was thinking of what to share first I wanted to share these photos from this session because I came across a comment that really stuck with me. Someone said:
“I love how your family photos are always so normal. Normal clothes, looking like you. Just you guys together laughing—not the typical ‘let’s take family photos’ photos.” And that made my heart really happy to read. Thats what I want you to feel.
While I absolutely think outfits matter and I’m always happy to help guide my clients, I find myself saying the same thing over and over: Be yourselves.
Don’t forget these photos are for you. At the start of almost every session, I’m reminding people to take their phones out of their pockets, take off their watches, ditch the hair tie on their wrist. Little things that help clean up a photo. But the older I get and the more families I photograph, the more I realize those things aren’t what make a photograph meaningful.
If you show up wearing clothes that make YOU feel good and spend your session loving on your family the way you do every day. I’m leaning more toward: it is what it is.
Because that’s your life.
And the older I get as an artist, the more I care about documenting who you actually are rather than creating some perfect version of you and Let’s be honest….
Your family doesn’t stand in a field smiling perfectly at a camera all day long.

When you look back years from now, do you want to remember the perfectly posed smile? Or do you want to remember how your child grabbed your hand when they were excited, how they rested their head on your shoulder when they were tired, how they ran ahead of you laughing, or how they fit perfectly in your arms before they grew bigger?

Those are the things I never want you to forget.
That’s the kind of family photography I’ll choose every single time.

There’s something really special about eloping in a national park, just the two of you.
You don’t have to perform. You don’t have to rush.
You get to move slowly and feel every part of the day.

Glacier National Park was the perfect place for that.

French park was showing off this day for Erin & Cams engagement session.

Every tree was at its peak. Full, loud with color. But this session felt peaceful, calm and sweet. Slow steps, little pauses with the pups & there was that kind of warmth that comes from people who don’t rush anything.

French park was already a familiar place to them. They walk their dogs here everyday. Same trail, same loops. The kind of routine that becomes its own love language without anyone naming it.

The wind moved through the trees and the tall grass in this slow, sweeping way. Catching Erin’s hair. A soft perfect moment during a session.

There were moments of laughter, leaves falling, dogs weaving between their legs. Two people in a place they already love, doing what they already do & me just capturing it.
