Hi, I’m Deni Stanev — a Kentucky-based photographer passionate about capturing portraits and events that reveal the real you. I believe every face tells a story, and my goal is to preserve not just how things look, but how they felt in the moment. Through my lens, I aim to capture genuine emotions and connections, creating images that are raw, personal, and timeless. Whether it’s a quiet portrait or a lively celebration, I’m here to tell your story with care and heart.

Honored to have The Shape of Missing on view at the Rowan County Arts Center through June 26.
A series about what remains with us: the words unsaid, the gestures never made, and the meaning found in their absence.

Two exhibitions. One gallery.

Now on display in the Main Gallery, The Shape of Missing by Deni Stanev and the Studio Artist Showcase offer visitors two distinct artistic experiences in a single visit.

Through ethereal floral compositions, The Shape of Missing reflects on memory, absence, and what remains, while the Studio Artist Showcase features the work of 11 artists exploring home, heart, and place through a variety of mediums.

Both exhibitions are on display through June 26. Admission is free during regular Arts Center hours.

Over the past six months, I’ve been drawn to explore different in-camera techniques, each experiment feeling random and disconnected. For a long time, I didn’t know how they would come together, and there were moments I questioned whether to keep going.

Then, without force or expectation, everything fell into place. That’s how the images in The Shape of Missing came to be.

Along the way, I also decided to give my fine art photography its own space, separate from my portrait work. On the new site, you can explore part of the series and I’ll be sharing more about the ideas behind the images in my blog.

The photographs currently on my site will be on display at the Rowan County Arts Center in June, and I’ll also be introducing the rest of the series there.

If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to share and follow along on my fine art page Stanev Fine Art

Feeling creatively stuck lately, especially around a photo project I’ve been working on. The kind of stuck where even picking up the camera starts to feel heavy.

When that happens, I go back to something that helps me find my way back to myself - macro photography.

There’s something special about it - the closeness, the connection to something you would usually overlook or pass by. Finding composition in the noise. The reveal of the hidden.

Even in the middle of the mess, the details pull me back in.

Today, it was a dandelion.
