Hiring a photographer is a big decision, and it is not always obvious what to look for.

Whether it is your wedding day, your senior session, or your family photos, these photos are the ones you will keep for decades. So it is worth taking a minute to make sure you are choosing the right person for the job.

Swipe through for the things I always tell people to consider before they book. Look at full galleries, make sure the style fits what you want, know what is included, and pay attention to how they communicate from the very first message. Your photographer should make this feel easy, not stressful!

What NOT to wear for senior pictures👇🏻

As your senior photographer, my goal is to help you look and feel your absolute best, and that starts with your outfit! Here’s what to skip for your senior session:

1. Neon or super bright colors. These can reflect onto your skin, creating an unnatural glow (think green or orange undertones 😬). Stick to more timeless, flattering tones that complement your features.

2. Tiny or busy patterns. Very small stripes or intricate prints can create a moiré effect (weird wavy lines that show up on camera), which can be distracting and quite honestly, hard to edit out.

3. Colors that match your skin tone too closely. N**e or beige tones that blend with your skin can wash you out in photos. We want contrast that makes you pop, not blend into the background!

4. Logos or large graphics (with the exception of college gear or your HS sports uniform!) These can date your photos and pull focus away from your face, and let’s be honest, this shoot is all about YOU, not your favorite brand.

5. Wrinkled or ill-fitting clothes. This seems small, but details matter. A clean, steamed, well-fitted outfit will photograph so much better and be more flattering on you!

Tim and Courtney’s wedding day at the Eau Claire Event District was one for the books!

From the walk down the aisle to the last dance, the day was full of laughter, happy tears, and the kind of moments that make being a wedding photographer so special.

We got lucky with some golden hour moments as the light poured through the venue’s big windows. We slipped away for a few minutes at sunset to capture just the two of them, and those ended up being some of my favorite photos of the day.

Congrats, Tim and Courtney! It was an honor to be a part of your special day.

A change of scenery for this one. Most of my engagement sessions happen out in rural Wisconsin, but Michelle and Joseph wanted the city, so we headed to Milwaukee for their engagement photos!

We started at the Milwaukee Art Museum, then walked the lakefront along Lake Michigan. That gave us clean modern architecture, open sky, and lots of room to just walk and talk.

If you’re picturing urban engagement photos with a calm, natural feel, this is a great place to start.

If you've ever thought "I don't know how to pose" this one's for you!

I see it at almost every session. Seniors come in a little nervous, unsure of what to do with their hands or where to look. And honestly? That's completely normal! Posing doesn't come naturally to most people, which is why I'm here!

My job isn't just to press the shutter. It's to direct, guide, and yes, sometimes even demonstrate the pose for you through every single moment of your shoot so that what comes out on the other side feels like you… not stiff, not forced, just real. 🙌🏻

Every great shot starts with a prompt. The magic happens when you stop overthinking it, relax, and just have fun! 😉

Trista and Kyle made this session completely their own!

From grabbing ice cream to wandering through the library, they wanted their engagement session to feel like them, and that's exactly what we did. 🙌🏻

This session was especially meaningful because I've had the honor of photographing Trista's senior photos as well as portraits of her and her family. Getting to document this next chapter of her life was truly special.
