Seip Earthworks, part of the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, west of Chillicothe on US Rt. 50. This is one of my favorite places to visit because there is a magical peacefulness to it. I get the same feeling at Hopewell Mound group at the top of the trail where the earthen wall is visible. It's a feeling that something significant used to take place there.

There is a meadow reclamation project going on here which makes it a great place to find birds. On this particular visit I saw orchard orioles, eastern meadowlarks, red-wing blackbirds, eastern kingbird, just to name a few.

And blossoms will be ghosts upon the vine.
The clock of earth will suddenly grow still,
Losing the thread that makes the garden mine.

So plant the borage, let the wild weeds grow,
And keep the silver water in the tray;
For when the bees decide at last to go,
They take the very light of life away.
