Across the Wilderness
From the open moorland above Brae of Achnahaird, the single-track road crosses the Coigach landscape beneath a distant chain of mountains stretching across the Northwest Highlands. Suilven, Cul Mòr and Stac Pollaidh are among the summits visible through successive layers of distance and weather.
The photograph was made during unsettled conditions in October 2024. Rather than isolating individual mountains, the wide view became about their relationship to the immense landscape around them — the road and scattered settlement providing a human scale against the moor, while distance and atmosphere gradually reduce the mountains to a thin, shifting horizon.
