Six months old.

Babies this age don’t know what a camera is yet. They don’t pose, don’t hide — they just look at you. They live in someone’s arms. And they change every single month.

I know — everyone says this is precious time. It’s still true.

We shot this about a month ago. Baby girl is already different, and I’m sure things between her and her brother have shifted a little too.

But some things don’t change in a month: her dad’s endless adoration. Their mom’s tenderness — in every touch, every kiss. And the way the parents follow their son’s curiosity wherever it leads.

That’s what I kept for them — and it was a joy to.

I’ve been photographing this family since before Eliza was even here.

Almost three years now. And the obvious amazing part is that she grew — from a bump, to a newborn, to a whole little person.
But that’s not the part that stayed with me. It’s them. In the first frames there’s excitement. Hope. That held-breath feeling of not knowing yet who this child will be. And by the last ones it’s something quieter — calm, settled, a kind of contentment. Not less love. Just love that has stopped holding its breath.

I almost never bring props to a session. I’m there for the life a family already has, not for things they don’t — anything else starts to feel like a set, a life borrowed for an hour.

Natalie is where that rule doesn’t apply. The ideas, the little worlds she dreams up — that isn’t decoration, it’s simply how she lives. I wasn’t staging her creativity; I was documenting it. That’s the whole difference.

Thank you, Natalie — for the ideas, for trusting me with all of it, and for becoming a friend along the way.

The photos matter — but they’re not the point.

It’s the hour a family lets go of the busyness. The lake calms everything, big water pulls the worry out of you, the field turns gold — and everyone stops performing and starts noticing each other again.

The kids play. And the grown-ups — this is the part I love — stop supervising and start savoring them.

That’s what I’m there for — and what the photos are for: so one look, years from now, brings it all back.
