This shot is one of many outtakes from the Dead and Company tour. I'm slowly working back into what I shot over the tour run, organizing, etc etc... On the road, I edit pretty quickly, wanting to get photos up that night/first thing the next morning, and in the process of picking the final bunch, there are always some cool shots that get left out. This one was from Camden on 6/25/17. Not sure why I didn't include it at the time, but figured better late than never! 😉

Outtakes from the Dead and Company tour will be popping up in the next few weeks, but wanted to share some other work I do. Took this at the end of my most recent walking tour last week (follow Los Angeles Walking Tours for more info and upcoming tours - including some I'll be offering that focus on street photography!). I have a thing for the "solitary palm against a beat up looking building" (or, in this case, the side of an LAPD parking structure full of beat up looking patrol cars...) for as long as I can remember; something about it just seems to be iconic, reminiscent of Los Angeles of another era, I suppose.

Wrigley Field, July 1 2017.
Bromance . 🙌
These two never failed to provide a wide array of animated performances, making for some great photos this summer. Bonus that they never seemed to mind me and my stupid camera being all up in their business. Love how this one landed.

Wrigley Field, June 30th. Apparently these two shows set records for attendance at the stadium. Hard to capture how "full" the place felt, but this was one attempt I made at doing so...

Wrigley was fun last night! Bittersweet as the tour comes to a close, but looking forward to the last gig tonight...and doing lots and lots of photo editing. Took this shot from the press box over home plate; shooting the baseball stadiums has been a lot of fun, this might be my favorite one yet.

New York City, Citifield, June 24th 2017

If you are photographing the same band every night for an entire tour, inevitably, you end up taking a lot of the ‘same shots’ every night. This is an example of that. I vary this one up as much as I can; sometimes taking it from the pit, and sometimes from the side of the stage, but for shows when we have a crazy big crowd, I always shoot this from the drum riser to capture the audience. Even though I have, over the past two summers, taken this exact shot many, many times, this one made me react the way I used to back in the day in the darkroom: as the print came to life in the tray, you catch yourself going ‘Daaaammmmn! How did that happen?”

The 'final shot of the night' is very symmetrical anyway - JM is always in the middle, and being the tallest one on stage, visually creates this kinda cool balance - but I was pretty pleased with how the lights lined up, the details of Bill's drum kit, and how vivid the audience is here.

This was a fun little side project I decided to put together. I've always loved how many families and kids come out to Dead and Company gigs, so I spent a few shows looking for dads and their kids to create a special Father's Day album (and, band members too - Bobby had his girls out in Boston, so we got that snapshot there). The coolest thing, though, is in the comment section of the Dead & Company album, where fans have started to post their own photos of going to concerts with their pops!
