If you are photographing the same band every night for an entire tour, inevitably, you end up taking a lot of the ‘same shots’ every night. This is an example of that. I vary this one up as much as I can; sometimes taking it from the pit, and sometimes from the side of the stage, but for shows when we have a crazy big crowd, I always shoot this from the drum riser to capture the audience. Even though I have, over the past two summers, taken this exact shot many, many times, this one made me react the way I used to back in the day in the darkroom: as the print came to life in the tray, you catch yourself going ‘Daaaammmmn! How did that happen?”
The 'final shot of the night' is very symmetrical anyway - JM is always in the middle, and being the tallest one on stage, visually creates this kinda cool balance - but I was pretty pleased with how the lights lined up, the details of Bill's drum kit, and how vivid the audience is here.
