There is a saying my mother would say to us when we were younger “como me ves te verás, como te veo yo me miraba ” and it translates (roughly) to “as you see me you will be seen, as I see you I was seen. Although this saying pertains to the idea of age and appearance, I can’t help but think of how it applies to self reflection. I remember day dreaming on my grandmother’s bed when I was younger. A bit younger than my niece pictured here. The bed was next to a window and as the breeze swayed the flowered curtain back and forth I would lay there and wonder about the woman I would become. I’m sure there are traces of that future self somewhere in me now , but I’ve seemed to forgotten the most important parts. Maybe if I think back on what my mother would say and see myself through the eyes of my younger self I could find her again.

That’s all it’s ever been, for me, to document what I see. The “how” changes. Sometimes I write it, take a photo of it, or a video of it. I still don’t understand why I find an almost desperate need to do it, but it’s apart of me. Lately, I have been reflecting on why I hesitate to post what I desperately want to share and the truth is I’m completely and utterly critical of myself and feel like it’s not good enough. It’s something I have been working on. For now, know this, I am not a professional photographer, writer, or videographer and I don’t think I ever will be, but I love to take pictures, write, and take video of things that I find important and love. The only thing left to say is , I guess I’ll just keep doing it until I can’t anymore.

The day I met Jr. was an awesome day. Jr. sits in this spot practically everyday to look at the view and take in the sun. When I asked him if I could take his picture he said “why?”. I responded “because you’re gorgeous.” He smirked and said “yeah, ok”. With his raspy voice, old New York accent, and love of classic cars who wouldn’t be stoked for meeting him.
