romanliufa.com Born in the Far East of Russia, Roman now calls the northern suburbs of Chicago home.

A self-taught photographer, his journey into photography began at the age of four, when his father passed away and left him an old film camera and darkroom equipment. These became Roman’s cherished toys, and through playing with them, he learned the art of photography, film development, and printing. Roman believes that photographs embody the intention of the photographer and capture the energy of the moment and place in which they were created. Through his work, he honors the beauty of nature, hoping to share its blessings and grace with others. His wish is that, when you view his photographs, they bring you a sense of peace, wonder, and joy. Roman Liufa Photography

"Every Color in the Frame Matters".

Photographing LGBTQ events has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey as a photographer. Every Pride celebration, community gathering, and special event has given me the opportunity to witness moments of joy, authenticity, resilience, and genuine human connection.

What inspires me just as much are the allies, families, friends, and supporters who help create welcoming spaces where everyone can feel safe, valued, and celebrated for who they are.

As a proud member of the LGBTQ community, I consider it a privilege to tell these stories through my camera, preserving moments that reflect both the spirit of the community and the people who make it so vibrant.

Earlier this summer, Red Drift and Veil were exhibited as part of this year’s Pride exhibition at Dandelion Gallery, Threads of Liberation.

Both works explore ideas of identity, visibility, and intimacy through the male figure, using cloth not only as a physical element, but as a metaphor for vulnerability, protection, and revelation.

Threads of Liberation brought together LGBTQ artists exploring identity, visibility, and freedom through a variety of creative voices.

I am grateful to have been part of this exhibition and to share my work in a space celebrating LGBTQ creativity and expression.

Breath and Afternoon Shadows installed and shared in space. Opening night at the gallery. Grateful for the interest and the conversation around these works.

In Breath, a swimmer glides beneath the water as bubbles rise toward the surface, transforming the act of breathing into a quiet meditation on presence, movement, and life itself.

In Afternoon Shadows, the male figure is partially illuminated by afternoon light filtering through blinds, where shifting shadows trace the body and create a contemplative dialogue between form, light, and space.

"Pride Pond"
Among 2,500 Pride ducks, two found each other. Can you find the kissing pair? πŸ’•

I photographed this colorful still-life image while volunteering at the LGBTQ+ Center of Lake County as we prepared thousands of rainbow ducks for Pride Fest 2026.

Just like these ducks, you never know where you'll find your perfect match πŸ¦†πŸ¦†
