Have you heard of neuroblastoma cancer? It’s a rare cancer, mostly impacting children under age five. Cancer prevention and education is such a huge passion of mine, and getting to photograph the Parent & Caregiver Education Conference for Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation (CNCF) was an absolute honor! Parents got to come hear doctors and survivors speak, while their kids were having a blast in the play room. And in the evening? Music with DJ Hannah and breakdancing with the Headspin Guy! Love SO much about all of this!

With you,
Charissa

Soaking up as much as I can of what’s left of summer! 🌞

Slow evenings, little bare feet in the grass, and sweet moments with these kiddos is a good way to do it. ❤️🌸

I’m obsessed. Krista and Bella, y’all are 15/10. Would photograph again.

“Because everyone should be able to enjoy dance.”

Day three of highlighting local organizations I’ve LOVED photographing and want eeeeveryone to know about (completely unsponsored)!

Meet: University Ballet of Chicago.

This is a student-run ballet company affiliated with the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. They offer **free** adult ballet classes and performance opportunities for dancers of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Personally, over the years ballet carried me through some really hard seasons. It taught me that I’m strong and can do hard things, and it brought joy and unexpected friendship. I’ll always be grateful for it. And I love that UBallet makes classes accessible regardless of experience or finances (I’ve taken classes with them and can vouch 💛).

Also, they’re performing Swan Lake this weekend!

🩰Check out their free classes here: www.uballet.org/classes/
✨Attend or livestream Swan Lake May 2 & 3: https://uchicago-student-orgs.myshopify.com/collections/uballet

“Because all children should have access to a customized education that allows them to learn and thrive!”

Day two of highlighting local organizations I’ve LOVED photographing and want eeeeveryone to know about (completely unsponsored)!

Meet: Meredith McBride Law.

We recently did some headshots together, and I’m thrilled to see her step into this next chapter. After years of experience as both an attorney and educator, she’s launched her own practice representing children and families in special education and disability rights matters.

Having photographed Meredith’s family for many years, I can tell you firsthand that she’s a gem! She’s incredibly kind, wicked smart, experienced, passionate about what she does, and deeply loves three amazing kiddos of her own (two of whom are neurodivergent and medically complex). Check her out at:

“Because every mom deserves to feel prepared, supported, and celebrated.”

This week I’m highlighting local organizations I’ve LOVED photographing and wholeheartedly want eeeeeveryone in my life to know about. (Not sponsored in any way! But in this day and age, looking for and highlighting the helpers feels especially important.)

Kicking things off: EveryMom Chicago.

If you haven’t heard of them, they’re a nonprofit based in Hyde Park connecting expectant mothers and families in underserved communities with essential material and support resources for those early weeks of parenthood.

They host “Kit & Community Nights” (like this one!), where volunteers come together to assemble beautiful, high-quality baby kits filled with newborn, postpartum, and breastfeeding supplies.

✨They have a kit night this Friday if you want to get involved
✨Their first gala is coming up Friday, June 5

Go check them out and give them some love:
