Day three of highlighting local organizations I’ve LOVED photographing and want eeeeveryone to know about (completely unsponsored)!

Meet: University Ballet of Chicago.

This is a student-run ballet company affiliated with the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. They offer **free** adult ballet classes and performance opportunities for dancers of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Personally, over the years ballet carried me through some really hard seasons. It taught me that I’m strong and can do hard things, and it brought joy and unexpected friendship. I’ll always be grateful for it. And I love that UBallet makes classes accessible regardless of experience or finances (I’ve taken classes with them and can vouch 💛).

Also, they’re performing Swan Lake this weekend!

We recently did some headshots together, and I’m thrilled to see her step into this next chapter. After years of experience as both an attorney and educator, she’s launched her own practice representing children and families in special education and disability rights matters.

Having photographed Meredith’s family for many years, I can tell you firsthand that she’s a gem! She’s incredibly kind, wicked smart, experienced, passionate about what she does, and deeply loves three amazing kiddos of her own (two of whom are neurodivergent and medically complex). This week I’m highlighting local organizations I’ve LOVED photographing and wholeheartedly want eeeeeveryone in my life to know about. (Not sponsored in any way! But in this day and age, looking for and highlighting the helpers feels especially important.)

Kicking things off: EveryMom Chicago.

If you haven’t heard of them, they’re a nonprofit based in Hyde Park connecting expectant mothers and families in underserved communities with essential material and support resources for those early weeks of parenthood.

They host “Kit & Community Nights” (like this one!), where volunteers come together to assemble beautiful, high-quality baby kits filled with newborn, postpartum, and breastfeeding supplies.

I just adore these two. It’s such a crazy amazing thing to photograph people’s care for each other. I feel so lucky to do this. Had a blast with these two at . Congrats to you both!!

The amount of times I teared up during this wedding ceremony was more than a handful. Kevin and Doug’s care for each other and their community came out in so many ways. One was that they only had two photo requests, and their top was that every guest be captured at least once. (The second was to make sure to photograph the flowers, and you can see why!)

Parenthood and the postpartum journey hold so much that often goes unseen.

We did a session specifically focused on honoring this season of life. Alex was one of the incredible people who participated, and having photographed her family for many years, I felt so lucky to celebrate her in this space.

I don’t think photography is about perfect smiling. It’s about presence. And being seen. And holding space for you. And having an opportunity to honor and witness the body that carries you through.

I just adore these two! I can’t express how grateful I am to get to capture little capsules of their day. It’s only been two weeks, but as I’m going through and editing photos, I’m still tearing up and grinning big (case in point, the last image makes me crack up so much). Congrats, Jennifer and Zach! You two are GEMS.
