Over the years photograph has put me into some interesting rooms.
I owe a lot of my love for photography to the intergenerational home I grew up in. I think there’s something magical about multiple generations living under the same roof. For me, that magic really came to life when I would sit with my grandfather and he would tell me stories of the people in our family photo albums. The people I’ll never meet and yet share so much with.
It’s always a gift when I get to witness someone else’s history but this one in particular is HISTORICAL. I had the honor of photographing Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun with her family in her home. ✨ in 1992, she made history when she was elected to the US Senate becoming the first Black woman ever and the first woman from Illinois to ever hold that seat. She’s been trailblazing ever since and you read about her journey at a library or book store near you. It’s been out for a year. might have some copies!
In addition to that, I helped digitally scan and archive some family photos from her personal for the photo insert. I really had just the best time working with these old images. So much to look at, so many emotions and connections to the past.
