After watching A Cold Sunday again, I realized the whole video was shot in a studio using a carefully designed, simple background, and I was surprised I hadn't noticed this before. The video’s minimalistic approach was a deliberate decision, allowing Yachty’s performance and the track’s melancholic energy to take center stage. Interestingly, it was shot in a single location, with very little movement outside the confines of the set. This choice was made to amplify the song’s introspective vibe. The muted color palette, which consists mostly of blues and grays, was designed to create a cold and distant atmosphere—fitting for the song’s mood. What caught my attention most was the choice of props: a vintage telephone, vintage record player, and other nostalgic items that subtly reference the feeling of longing and missing someone. The simplicity of the visuals enhances the emotion of the track, making the visuals and the lyrics perfectly align. The aesthetic was designed to contrast Yachty’s usual vibrant style, which is why this video stands out from his typical upbeat visuals.

While rewatching the video for A$AP Forever, I noticed how it constantly shifts between surrealist elements and grounded visuals. One fascinating detail I found was that the video was heavily inspired by the art of surrealist painter René Magritte. The use of constant visual shifts, like A$AP Rocky transitioning through the wall, mimics the dreamlike distortion seen in surrealist works. Additionally, the video’s expansive scenes were shot with a variety of dynamic camera angles and seamless transitions, made possible by director Dexter Navy’s vision for blending modern technology with classic aesthetics. Interestingly, the collaboration with Moby came from a mutual desire to fuse past and present sounds, blending the track’s introspective lyrics with Moby’s sampled melodies. Filming took place across various locations in Los Angeles, with some parts shot on a soundstage to enhance the dreamlike atmosphere. The video ends with a shot of Rocky alone in an empty room, symbolizing the isolation that comes with fame. The video's attention to detail in the cinematography and art direction makes it feel like an intricate visual story rather than just a music video.
