Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Get outside, get some sunshine and enjoy this beautiful planet we call home! 🌞🌸🌲

Protecting the Earth can be done many ways. Some swaps I’ve made in my life include:
-Reusable grocery bags (so much easier to carry anyways).
-Bamboo cotton swabs instead of q-tips made with plastic and plastic packaging.
-Cotton dryer balls that last years instead of single use dryer sheets full of chemicals and packaging that ends up in landfills. Saves money in the long run!
-Reusable cups made from metal or glass as opposed to bottled water.
-Buying quality clothing instead of having a lot of cheap options made from synthetic fabrics that fall apart and end up getting thrown away. Fast fashion is not it.
-Using kitchen items that are plastic free and hold up a lot longer over time (also better for your own health)
-Avoiding self care products with harmful chemicals including but not limited to oxybenzone, oxtinoxate, parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances (they contain VOCs and phthalates), polyethylene and polypropylene.
-Opening the curtains for natural light instead of using artificial lighting.
-Planting native plants that support biodiversity.

There are so many ways to be better for our planet, for our generation and for future generations. I refuse to ignore issues, ways to improve and all the educational tools at our finger tips. Small changes add up and make a difference. 🌍

Finally announcing the big news here… our little girl is here! 💗

We’ve been soaking in all the newborn snuggles, taking time to adjust to our new family dynamic and prioritizing being present. ☁️

For the time being, I’ll be taking all the photos of her and documenting her journey until I begin client sessions again. I’ll also be going back through my photo archives to keep the flow here going.

I have made the decision to only take on sessions locally (Cincinnati area) for the remainder of 2026. As much as I love to travel for a session or take on some when I make my trips to Michigan, I won’t be doing that this year (weddings excluded). When I make my rounds to Michigan, it’ll be prioritizing visits with family and friends who live so far away so they can build a relationship with my little one!

Thank you for understanding and being patient with me during this vulnerable time. So excited for this chapter of life (and to have a little mini to take photos of)! 🤍

✨ I’ve had a number of emails come through. I promise I’m not ignoring anyone. I’ll be responding soon and have been taking my maternity leave to be with my baby! ✨

This post is different from others.

Over the summer, my Nana passed away. It was so sudden and it left me in shock. I’m still processing the loss.

I’ve taken lots of photos with her over the years, but back in 2020, she asked me to bring my camera on one of our trips. She had portraits of other family members who had passed and told me how meaningful those photos were to her. She told me she wanted portraits taken so one day we would have photos to remember her by. At the time I thought she was being a little bleak, but I of course was happy to take her photos.

She hated the cold and wanted more of a “tropical” vibe to her photos. She didn’t want to get all dressed up because she wanted to be remembered as she was. So in Florida, we drove to some hot springs where we spent the afternoon taking photos, going on scenic walks and enjoying the water.

Now looking back, these are some of the most meaningful photos to me, seeing her smile, reliving that day, but also knowing she wanted and trusted me to take her photos.

She was so supportive of my photography journey. She loved seeing all the photos I posted and was always liking and sharing all of them. Whenever we’d chat, she talk about my recent posts and how she loved how I posed clients, the color tones she liked within the photos or anything that caught her eye.

She was so special to me and so supportive of Gabrielle Gen Photography. I’ve always been passionate about keepsake photos to remember all the important things and I’m so glad I have these photos to cherish. I’m sharing them to celebrate her. To celebrate how thoughtful she was to know that these photos would mean so much to me one day. To celebrate her support she showed Gabrielle Gen Photography. To celebrate her life.

Photography to me has always meant more than just taking photos, but thanks to her, it means even more 🧡
