Hi friends, followers, and lovely supporters! It’s me, Jessica. I know I haven’t been posting for a while, but now I’m in my
✨🪩Updating my Social Media Era🪩✨
I took a step back from Facebook and Instagram because although they can be amazing platforms to promote and market oneself, I felt like social media was heading in a direction that did not suit me as an artist. Full transparency-the last three years have brought some of the darkest seasons of my life personally and I couldn’t project the false narrative of a consistently cheery photographer through quirky reels and viral soundbites. I spent a bit of my personal time offline not being okay, experiencing heartbreaking losses and major life disappointments and it became really difficult to put myself out there during those dark seasons. Not to mention that comparison got the better of me and I started questioning if my work was good enough.
That’s not to say that all my time away has been heavy-hearted as I was fortunate to have some truly inspiring experiences. I was published in a major bridal magazine and hired to run workshops. I traveled through 17 states to some of the most stunning locations. I photographed some absolutely beautiful humans and had the privilege of documenting the happiest and most important days of people’s lives. And I’ve been honored to take the first portraits of tiny humans as well as the last portraits of lives well lived.
Taking a step back from the pressure of posting put a new perspective on my artistry and my purpose. Instead of seeking out the most instagramable moments, I began focusing on capturing raw emotions, life’s fleeting moments, and the authentic beauty of human connection. Photographing the delicate intricacies of life and crafting epic storytelling images for my clients became my guiding lights as to which path I wanted my art to follow.
While combing through my archives from the last few years to give my website a complete overhaul, I realized I have grown so much in my craft. I started falling in love with my work again and I realized that I have created some really cool sh✨t that deserves to be seen. And even though I know there will be more times of not feeling okay, I am committed to my art despite the pressures of life and social media. I have the ability to freeze time and preserve tangible memories for the loveliest humans. Memories that may otherwise be forgotten and lost to time. How amazing is that?!
I pour my heart and soul into every image that I capture and edit and I started to realize that it’s absolutely worthwhile to share the art that I am proud to have created when I wasn’t okay. ✨
So forgetting the reels and the algorithms, I’m looking forward to connecting, telling stories again through imagery, and marketing my work on social media in a way that feels right for me.
And if you’re still reading this, you rock! I just want to take a moment to give a MASSIVE Thank You to each and every one of you for supporting my business over the years. I extend my endless appreciation to those of you who have trusted me to capture some of the most fun, most intimate, and most vulnerable moments of your lives, especially to those who have returned again and again to have me capture new memories every year. And of course, a special thanks to all who have passed the word on and referred me to countless new clients who have become friends. I have greatly enjoyed being welcomed into your worlds with love and good vibes and most of all, trust. Your support and creative freedom are why I am able to do what I do and LOVE what I do.
I'm looking forward to diving in strong to reconnect! I’m excited to update my portfolio and show some of my favorite work from the last couple years.
And for those of you creating in the dark, bring your art into the light! Don’t worry about if it’s “good enough”. If you like your art, then that is enough. Your hard work and creativity deserves to be shared with the world. You never know who you might inspire!
I hope everyone has been doing well, and if you see this, give me a shout! I appreciate all the love! 🪐⚡️🖤🦋🪩✨
