The rain came halfway through their session. And somehow, it made everything even more beautiful.
What stayed with us was how effortlessly present these parents were. Unbothered by the weather, completely immersed in the little world they’ve built with their three kids.
Home is their happiest place. A backyard full of play, messy ice cream faces, wild imaginations, and all the beautifully ordinary moments this mama wanted to remember.
Because we’re not here to make your life look beautiful. We’re here to preserve the beauty that’s already there.

There’s something about California that always feels like an invitation to play.

The open sky. The brightness. The color. The creativity that seems to spill out onto the streets. And in Venice especially, there’s a kind of freedom that makes everything feel a little more alive.

This family felt like all of it.

Colorful. Free. Playful. Completely themselves.

Nothing about their love needed to look like anyone else’s. It was special because it was theirs. The way they moved together, laughed together, loved each other. Unscripted and entirely their own.

Maybe that’s what I love most about photographing families in places like this. When the environment gives everyone permission to loosen their grip, follow the light, play a little more, and simply be who they are.

California, you bring something different out of me creatively.

And this family brought something different, too.

Unscripted. Undone. Uniquely theirs.

The way your children already know they are safe with you.

Family is home. Raw, real, + full of love.

So is this city. Messy, vibrant, alive. Stretching us, shaping us, making space for connection in unexpected ways.

And maybe that’s why they hold so much power. Their love. Their meaning. Their ability to shape us. There’s a vibrancy in both that never loses its weight.

She said, “I don’t want to forget this experience of starting our family in New York. It feels rare. Not everyone gets this chance. We grew our family in a two-bedroom apartment, often on top of each other, but I firmly believe that closeness in space created closeness in our family.”

That stayed with me.

Because New York asks a lot of you. It stretches you, refines you, and holds both chaos and beauty at once. And somehow, in the middle of all of it, families are being built. Roots are growing. Love is found here.

In places like Tribeca, where community feels tangible, where life keeps moving, where families are built, and where love keeps expanding.

Family + New York.
Messy, raw, real. Full of life.
