About over 10 years ago I went on Safari to Kenya and Tanzania. I must admit the best thing about the trip was being in Africa and taking pictures, being with family and one of my guides who I am Facebook friends with still. I wish I had all my slides on disc or scanned on the computer to post.

Here is BAS DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY eight tips for photographer while on Safari:

1. Get a good zoom lens.
2. Monopods are a must, all though on most Safari's they have bean bags if you forget a monopod.
3. Pack your audio equipment. Now a day’s people like to record the sounds they hear while on Safari.
4. Protect yourself from dust and your equipment. Clean your camera equipment daily if not a couple times a day.
5. Look for a camera with strong auto focus capabilities.
6. Establish expectations early with your guide. What do you want to see and photograph? I recommend small group Safari not large group. Larger groups of people can be hell to travel with, just saying. Either hire your own guide or go in a small group. I have done both while traveling and I prefer small groups or to travel on my own. It is harder as a woman to travel alone. Safety is first!
7. Don’t “chase” the animals. Watch, listen and keep the camera ready for action. It can take the best photographers all day to get that one special photo.
8. Accept the imperfections. Safari ride are bumpy, and the wind can change on a dime. Go into the safari knowing that things won’t go as planned, and that’s what ultimately helps your safari film stand out. One day you might not get any real significant photos and the next day you get some great photos.
9. Beth A. Shandles biggest tip do not eat a teaspoon full of carrots, it will make you sick as a dog for at least a week. In all seriousness do not eat anything that is not cooked, or you will get sick. This means no photographing and missing out on a lot of cool animals, scenery and people.
10. Just have fun! Your guides no the danger and will make sure you are safe and know what to look out for. I think my biggest danger while on Safari were the monkeys at the Safari Lodges we stayed at. You always had to watch your food or a monkey or two might steal it. Therefore, at the lodges they had little bats all round for batting the monkeys away. Monkeys can be mean when they want food and I noted they are craft about trying to steal your food.

Have fun traveling on safari!
