I came across a few feathered and furry friends during a visit to Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary and Montrose Beach protected dunes yesterday. Thanks to my friend Natalie for being such a great guide! And to my son who has become a bird nerd in his own right. I’m grateful that there are protected sanctuaries around Lake Michigan’s shores. These sanctuaries are needed more than ever, particularly given today’s announcement of a major rollback to the Endangered Species Act in the United States.

I woke up early last Tuesday morning to catch the lunar eclipse, but the blood moon stayed masked behind dark clouds. So I waited with the BaHa’i temple until the sky turned from indigo to baby blue at the Wilmette Harbor. The moon didn’t reveal herself until much later that evening. Hope to catch the next full lunar eclipse 2028!
