***TODAY*** IGNITE THE SPIRIT - 1st Annual Softball Tournament CFD vs CPD

Members of the Chicago Fire Department battled members of the Chicago Police Department today at Wentworth Park, raising money for both the Ignite the Spirit and Light the Line Foundations. CFD won two of the three hotly contested tilts. My photos are heavily CFD with a few of the officers as well.

***August 16, 2026*** Chicago Fire Department Still & Box Alarm - 6720 South Jeffery Boulevard

Just a quick post to wrap up the summer. The fire was on the fourth floor of a large courtyard apartment building. I am going back to only weekend and holiday posts so incidents on weekdays are out. I’m up early nearly every Saturday and Sunday morning so if you catch something between 3:30-8:00, you’ll probably see me there. Until the next one, stay safe and I’ll see you on the streets.

***TODAY*** Chicago Fire Department Working Fire - 7545 South Emerald Avenue

Around 1030 this morning. 2-story, ordinary, 30x60 with a fire on the second floor, b-side. I was 3.5 miles away and it was mostly out before I arrived. Just can’t get anywhere quick in the summer. I was able to get a nice decon shot for those who’ve been asking about those practices. There were a couple pit bulls in the residence that did self evacuate but the hose line did not miss their💩.

***TODAY*** Chicago Fire Department Working Fire - 12501 South Michigan Avenue

The South Side Sultans and Bad Boys of Roseland working together this morning to extinguish a fire in this 1.5-story residence. It’s always great to see highly competent fire companies at work.

***TODAY*** Chicago Fire Department Working Fire - 4732 South LaPorte Avenue

The reason I started this page was to provide the general public some insight into what the fire service does and to provide images for family and friends of those who do the job. That includes sometimes shooting in not the best conditions. This morning was dark and dreary with a steady rainfall. Challenging photographic conditions, having to continuously keep the camera dry and the lens free of droplets. So these images are a little less quality but still gives you the idea that firefighting goes on in all conditions. This appeared to be a kitchen fire extinguished with the crosslay in quick order.

Congratulations to Deputy District Chief Mayer on serving his final shift for the Chicago Fire Department. While I did not know Chief Mayer personally, it was obvious that he was highly respected and will be greatly missed. I’m sure I have several more images of him over the years but here are a few I could locate today.

***July 20, 2026*** Chicago Fire Department Alley Garage - 2605 West Lithuanian Plaza Court

Just a few images from earlier in the week. Since Monday, there have been four working fires in the entire city. We are solidly in the dog days of summer here in the Windy City.
