I felt privileged to have been allowed to photograph this old cowboy outside an El Paso tienda. When I see interesting looking people I ask if I may take their photo. 9 of 10 times they say yes. I truly treasure these brief interactions and capturing a moment in time.

The cacti are blooming and that means the birds are chowing down on cactus fruit and flowers here in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. I had a blast photographing a big variety of feathered friends earlier this week.

I shot these concept photos about a year ago in Chicago. Two performers came together under the idea of what a circus couple might look like coming in to Olan Mills for a family portrait. A couple of the pics ended up more dark and moody which I really liked. I also took some solo shots. Fun collaboration.

Abandoned on the Continental Divide. Found this old rust bucket during a hike on the Continental Divide Trail in the Gila National Forest. A buddy of mine who is a car guy says he thinks it’s a 1938 Pontiac. I’ll go with that.

A Visit With Jean-Robert. During a Sunday morning walkabout I discovered the A Space Studio/Art/Gallery where artist Jean-Robert P. Béffort creates and displays his art. He was generous with his time, allowing me to take multiple photographs of him and his works. Thank you Jean-Robert for being such an amazing host for this unscheduled and intrusive guest who was fortunate to stumble across your amazing gallery.

Here is Jean-Robert's artist statement: My artwork focuses on transmuting, transforming and transcending the debris and artifacts of consumer culture by way of 2D collage and mixed-media assemblage sculpture. I feel the instinctive and creative urge to recognize and discover beauty. The desire to enhance and build upon it is my very métier. I listen to my hearts intuitive nuances that inform my idiosyncratic predilections to bubble up and present themselves; that cathartic moment for my true colors to shine through. For me, art is the chance to balance a non-linear search of juxtaposition with composition which in turn reveals a poetic discovery to the previous unknown probabilities. It is a solitary quest with a multitude of destinations and a-ha moments. I am just as surprised at the end of the day as anybody else on the ensuing results when the gestalt is reached and the glue dries.

I reuse and recycle everyday found objects or printed matter that are combined into many layers of text and imagery. What emerges is a visual narrative that tells a story of reparation and rebirth. I redirect appearances by reordering and rearranging content both internally and externally. It is a journey made to reinterpret existing models and structures which will then derive into a more meaningful and conscious collaborative conclusion. Basically, I am an alchemist turning lead into gold; the visionary process of alchemy is my artistic voyage. The origin of simple consumer goods is reconstructed thru reorganization to be redefined and elevated to a position of a one-of-a-kind grandiose imaginative repose and remanifestation.

While working out in Silver City, NM I met Silver Barbell gym owner Jason Quintana and struck up a conversation leading to me taking some photos. Jason is a competitive powerlifter who, though an imposing figure, is a heck of a nice guy who gives much back to his community.

Thanks Jason for letting me invade your training routine.

Photo shoot with Hooks & The Huckleberries at their show at Whiskey Creek Zócalo last night. Really enjoyed the pre-show portrait shoot and performance shots with these Albuquerque-based country rockers. Go check ‘em out. They sound terrific and are in the midst of recording a new album. The lead singer has quite a story having previously spent years touring with a punk band.
