A great restaurant is about far more than what arrives on the plate.

It is the glow of the bar. The practiced hands behind it. The sound of conversation across the room. The careful pour that turns a simple drink into the beginning of a memorable evening.

Our work with T-Joe’s Steakhouse & Saloon gave us the opportunity to photograph the food, drinks, people and unmistakable Western character that make this Cheyenne restaurant what it is. Every image was created inside the restaurant, during the rhythm of an actual working day, with the goal of telling its story honestly and beautifully.

Because strong commercial photography should do more than show people what you offer.

It should make someone feel something.

Real food deserves real photography.

Your food is part of your reputation. Before someone tastes it, smells it, or sits down at your table, there's a good chance they'll meet it through a photograph.

We photograph food the way people experience it, up close, dimensional, honest and inviting. Because when a chef, restaurant owner or food maker puts real care into what they serve, the photography representing it should carry that same care.

Food photography should make you hungry.

It really can be that simple.

We approach food with the same philosophy we bring to most of our commercial work: start with what's real, pay attention to the details, find the right light, and let the subject do what it already does well.

We aren't trying to turn a meal into something unrecognizable.

We want the texture of the bread to matter. The warmth of the food to come through. The details to invite you closer.

Because when someone sees a photograph of something delicious, the first response shouldn't be, “That's a beautiful photograph.”

It should be:

“I want that.”

Then the photograph has done its job.

If you've been thinking about Portraits at The Davissa, now is the time to grab your spot for next Saturday. Reservations are open, and the booking link is below.

Portraits don't always have to be perfect.

Sometimes they're better when they're real.

We certainly make the beautiful portraits, the ones you'll frame, hang on the wall and give to the people you love.

But somewhere along the way, we also want you to forget about the camera for a little while.

Laugh. Play. Be ridiculous. Hold onto each other. Let your hair blow around. Just be yourselves for a while.

We'll slow down for a while.

And we'll make photographs of this chapter, because this chapter matters too.

We've been thinking for a while about doing something a little different here at The Davissa, and we've decided it's time.

On Saturday, August 22, we're going to open the ranch for a small number of portrait sessions.

Not rushed mini-sessions. Not a line of families waiting for their turn in front of the same setup.

Just you, the people you love, a beautiful place, and some time together.

We'll spend up to 45 minutes with you, using some of our favorite places around the ranch, finding the good light and letting things happen naturally. We'll help when you need a little direction, of course, but mostly we want you to relax, enjoy being together and let us take care of the photographs.

Because we really do believe the ordinary moments of life become the extraordinary memories of tomorrow.

And maybe that's especially worth remembering right now.

Life doesn't have to be perfect before it's worth photographing. We don't have to wait until things settle down, schedules become less complicated, or some imagined “better time” finally arrives.

This is your life right now. These are your people. And this chapter matters.
