"Are my kids too old to have their photos taken?"

Maybe you've been thinking it. They're older now. Taller. The little years came and went, and the photos you meant to have taken never happened.

Or maybe you had them taken year after year, and now you're wondering if they've outgrown it.

Here's my answer.

They're not too old.

The window doesn't close. It just changes.

Their personality shows up now in ways it couldn't when they were small. You can see who they're becoming in the way they stand, the way they laugh, the way they look back at you.

This version of them is worth keeping.

What’s the best age or stage to book photos of your kids?

I know what you’ll think when I answer. Of course the photographer would say that.

But here it is anyway.

It’s now.

This stage will end sooner than you think. The next one swoops in and takes over, and the last one becomes a memory.

Photos are the one thing we get to keep through all of those changes. A nod to an earlier time we won’t get back. Waiting too long sometimes means we miss it.

So the best time?

Now.

And again next year.

Trail Minis this weekend were an absolute delight! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful afternoon or a more lovely location!

Families told me how much fun they had. It all felt a bit more like playing than getting photos taken!

I keep coming back to these downtown session photos, and I think it's because they feel so natural. Your senior guy doesn't have to love photos. I'll keep things relaxed and easygoing, and he just might be surprised how much he likes them afterward!

Some of my favorite moments this weekend were the small, real ones. The kind I got to quietly watch unfold, full of the connection and genuine love these families have for each other.

A young dad cuddled up next to his wife and their baby, looking at them with the softest, most adoring expression.

A mom looking at her boy, who's not so little anymore. Like she knows just how fast this time is going.

Moms and dads pulling their kids in close. A snuggle would turn into a tickle, and then the laughing would start. Pure joy, and such a gift to watch.

It's a lesson I keep learning myself: to love the real life moments and treasure them for exactly what they are. They're the ones that stay with us.
