I will forever love feisty girls.

Play hard, love hard, run the show at two years old. Can it take a bit to get everyone on the same page? Yes. But is it worth it for all the giggles and the snuggles and the absolute mayhem? Also yes.

August and September had a bit of a baby boom, but things are starting to slow down again now. I have a couple openings for newborn sessions in Cheyenne and Fort Collins after the new year, but I recommend reaching out before baby is here to ensure you have a spot! Priority for scheduling goes to families who are on my due date calendar.

How do you decide what to wear for senior photos?

I wish I could give a one size fits all answer on this question, because it would make everyone’s lives much easier! I can give advice for family sessions all day long, but seniors? It’s an entirely different ballgame.

Some seniors want all new outfits for their session. Others want their tried and true favorites. Some kids buy their outfits months in advance. Some show up with a dress they purchased only hours earlier. Some seniors thrift, others raid their mom’s closet. I’ve had seniors spend months creating mood boards for outfits, while others grab whatever happens to be clean the afternoon of.

My only piece of advice? Wear what feels like you. If that’s jeans and a graphic tee, rock it. If that’s a formal ball gown, let’s do it. Dad’s hat and a flannel from the back of your truck? Perfect.

I’m not quite ready to schedule for 2027 (aka Class of 2028) yet! I’ll have a senior myself next summer, and need to make sure we have her photos scheduled first. :) I’m hoping to have my 2027 senior calendar after the first of the year - make sure to watch this space for updates!

I’ve had a handful of people reach out and ask about senior sessions for Summer 2027. Woohoo!!! Not only am I thrilled you’re this on top of it, I’m also really excited for all the seniors who I’m going to get to work with in 2027.

Here’s the catch: My oldest (Willa) is also going to be headed into her senior year next summer. So before I do anything else, or schedule anyone else, I need to get her senior photos on the calendar.

I’m also going to revamp my 2027 senior pricing and packages, adding some really awesome stuff, and taking out the things that didn’t matter. I would love to add more studio sessions, make it easier to understand what packages include what locations, and make sure you’re getting exactly what you need for prints and albums.

I have been putting together an unofficial senior waitlist though! I will email the waitlist the literal second my senior calendar is ready – hopefully before the end of 2026.

It’s easier than ever to make things perfect these days. AI can change your clothes. Your smile. Your face. It can scribble out the existence of imperfection, leaving you with only the most perfect parts.

But perfect? It’s boring.

I chased these sweet girls around this summer with a 40 year old lens, one I bought for $20 off FB fifteen years ago. No auto focus, so plenty of blurry photos. And you know what? I freaked loved every one of them.

Let things be messy. Kids might not listen, but eh, I don’t care. I enjoy the challenge of getting them to participate in my silly ideas. Let them get tomatoes on their shirt, and their hair whip in the wind. Dance in the sunshine, wrestle in the grass, and cry because their sister hit them just a *little* too hard this time. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s the evenings you actually want to remember with your sweet family.

They’re all getting so big. 😭😭😭

Watching “my” kids grow up is the best part of this job. Watching shy toddlers become opinionated ten year olds? Fantastic. Seeing tiny little floppy newborns now wrestling with their dad? The best.

So even if your older kids aren’t the focus of the newborn session…they might still steal the show. ;)

I stopped at the new Morningstar Village at Cheyenne Frontier Days every single day I attended. Between the dancers, the drum circle, and the gorgeous summer light, it was an absolutely mesmerizing experience. The dancers come from all over Wyoming and South Dakota, and put in a grueling schedule all week - at least 3 hour long performances a day, for 9 days. By the end of the week, word had spread about their new facility, and the stands were packed.

I am so thankful for the people who do the work to keep these traditions alive, and grateful to the people who were able to make the new facility reality.

I grew up in the self-proclaimed “Cow Capital of the World” (aka Miles City, Montana). While my parents weren’t farmers or ranchers, I did grow up surrounded by alfalfa fields, attending the World Famous Bucking Horse Sale, and raised a bottle fed calf for 4H. I was a horse girl to the max, and would spend hours upon hours hiking the creek bottoms behind our house so I could hang out and watch the horses that were pastured there.

I still haven’t given up on the horse dreams - retirement plans, yo – but I have stepped away from the world of cowboys over the last decade or two.

So I was a little hesitant when a friend tried to drag me into volunteering as a photographer for Cheyenne Frontier Days (Cheyenne Frontier Days ). July is one of the busiest months of my year, and as soon as CFD is over, we jump into getting back to school. It seemed like a terrible idea, but….potentially also an interesting time…? And if there’s anything I can’t say no to, it’s a good story.

After two VERY hot afternoons behind the chutes during the rodeo, I’m completely hooked again. The energy, the horses, the dirt, and even the summer heat had me happy as I’d been in a long time. Except now I get to take my camera along? Sold.

These photos are from a couple half rolls of film I shot on the first afternoon. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, so I only came in with the roll I was trying to finish off (Kodak Gold) and a roll of Portra that I wanted to start. Turns out, I freaking loveeeeeee the results, which is dangerous(ly expensive). So if anyone has ideas on how to get someone to finance my film purchases, let me know? ;)

Not everyone wants mountains and wildflowers for their senior session, and that’s okay!

Senior sessions are for *you* - and while for a lot of people that means a white sundress in a field of flowers, for other it means your pantsuit and pearls from speech and debate competitions. The one that makes you feel like a total bad*ss (which you most definitely are!).

Downtown Cheyenne provides a TON of opportunities for color, texture, urban greenery, and fabulous architecture lines. For this session we had a few general spots in mind, but found others as we walked around, chatting about what the future might hold for this awesome senior.
