The Willie Waldman Project at Leroy’s Hot Stuff August 25, 2023
The Willie Waldman Project performance at Leroy's Hot Stuff in Porter, IN was a night of improvisation at its best. Featuring the incredible talents of Willie Waldman on trumpet, Kofi Baker on drums, Marco Villarreal on guitar, Chris Peffers on percussion and Colin Scott on bass, the night was filled with infectious energy, original songs, incredible improvisation and outstanding musicianship.
It was a rare hometown gig for Willie Waldman. Known for his exceptional skills as a trumpet player, Waldman has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Snoop Dogg, B.B. King, and Warren G. His ability to blend various genres, such as jazz, funk, and hip-hop, into his compositions is truly remarkable. Waldman's performance at Leroy's Hot Stuff was no exception.
Waldman surrounds himself with incredible musicians. Guitarist Marco Villarreal was certainly one of them! Having recently performed with The Miles Electric Band in San Francisco, Villarreal proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with. His mastery of the guitar was evident in every note he played, effortlessly blending intricate melodies with mind-blowing solos. Villarreal's unique playing style captivating the crowd from start to finish and complimented Waldman perfectly.
Super talented, Chicago Bassist Colin Scott provided the funky jazz groove needed to set this music over the top while percussionist Chris Peffers really added to the groove on the congas!
Lastly, we cannot forget about the incredible drumming skills of Kofi Baker. Son of legendary drummer Ginger Baker, Kofi has truly inherited his father's talent and has carved his own path in the music industry. His impeccable sense of rhythm and powerful drumming created a solid foundation for the band's performance, driving the energy of the concert to
Leroy's Hot Stuff provided an intimate and cozy setting for this gig, allowing the audience to feel connected to the music and the band, especially Willie who had many former High School friends show up to support their home town horn star! Cheesetown (Chesterton) Class of ‘83 had many toast that night!
The Willie Waldman Band concert at Leroy's Hot Stuff was a night to remember. With the incredible talents of Willie Waldman, Marco Villarreal, Kofi Baker, Chris Peffers and Colin Scott, the band delivered a performance that was both powerful and soulful. If given the opportunity, I would highly recommend experiencing the magic of their live show.
