They said they'd look awkward...this is how it actually went. Do you see awkward? Nope, me neither.

These sweet people live in my neighborhood in Midlothian, Virginia and contacted me when baby boy had just been born in December for a spring session. They introduced me to the park where they got married in Richmond, and it was perfect.

I've had the pleasure of knowing the Becks now for 2.5 years and have been with them throughout this little girl's pregnancy, birth and baby years, both physically and virtually through social media. They live in Germany now, but returned to Richmond for some things, and Jordan booked a motherhood shoot for Alaytra.

When I do extended family photo sessions, we have fun. It's not stiff, boring, all stand in a line and smile. Of course we get the all looking and smiling photos as well, but my goal for your extended family photos is to laugh and enjoy each other's company. (aaannndd...maybe pick on your siblings a little bit, lol, right Jared?)

The Moore family was the perfect example of that, as you can see, for memorable, special and unforgettable Richmond family photography.

Sometimes, as your Richmond family photographer, when I photograph mamas with their babies, I wonder if they will actually be able to remember these days. If they will remember what it felt like to hold them, tickle them, and boop their noses.

Scott and I about got stuck in the mud in rural Texas in our little rental car at the beginning of this session, and outran a tornado on the way back to Oklahoma at the end. The weather in April always keeps me on my toes there.

I don't often get the opportunity to photograph high school seniors, but man, it's such a rush when I do!! Especially Oklahoma beauties like this one. I have no doubt her mama is in her feels about her first baby graduating, and this little señorita is sooo accomplished. She has had an incredible career as an athlete but if you've ever heard her sing, you would have the biggest smile on your face.

This family is about to have their second girl, and I remember being just in their shoes a short 13 years ago, albeit I didn't have two under two! If you have kiddos really close in age, or heck, even if you don't, type your best advice or support statements in the comments.

You’re not getting photos because everything is perfect right now.

You’re getting them because you already feel time slipping through your fingers a little.

Because one day his hands won’t fit in yours like this.
Because your boys already look bigger than they did six months ago.
Because you’re tired and overwhelmed and healing and still somehow completely obsessed with these tiny humans.

And honestly? Memory is not as kind as we think it is.

So this is not about looking perfect for the camera.

It’s about keeping proof that your baby was this little and your family was this deeply loved.
