Need a way to keep your “big kids” engaged during a family photo session? Steal this idea from one of my favorite long-time families!

Before the session, they hype the kids up by making a bingo-style board of things they think I’ll say. Then throughout the session, everyone works on getting me to say the words. Every time I do, the whole family cracks up at their inside joke (and I get some great images out of it). When someone gets bingo? Family dance party time!

At our session this fall, I said two of their “runner-up” words almost immediately: “futball” and “butt cheeks.” (Yes, I say lots of weird things at photo sessions to get genuine smiles from your kids, and I stand by my methods.)

So make your own bingo board for your family session and see what kind of unhinged things you can get your photographer to say along the way. If it’s me, you’ll probably end up dancing before we’re done!

There’s something extra special about a maternity session when you know you’ll get to meet the little one soon. I had the best time with these two, and I can already tell this baby is so very loved. I can’t wait to meet them and watch this family grow from two to three!

A little studio update: I’m almost wrapped up for 2026, and my camera is about to go into hibernation until spring. But there’s one exception to the rule... babies! If you’re expecting this winter, I’ll happily dust off the camera for newborn sessions.

Fall has been in full swing around here for a while now (when I’m not shooting or editing, I’m basically living at the soccer fields or cheering on my favorite cheerleader!). And we FINALLY have the temperatures to match!

Tonight we’re heading out to the fire pit for s’mores and building a haunted cookie house (Trader Joe’s has the cutest kit for these right now!).

When you’re looking for a family photographer, you’re really looking for someone who can grow with your family.

This family has trusted me to photograph bringing all three of their boys home from the hospital (and lots of moments in between). Along the way, I’ve learned a few things about them. Their brand of magic is happy chaos. Their boys have the cutest nicknames for their favorite stuffed animals. And if I want real, full-on belly laughs, I need to call in Dad for the job.

That’s the beauty of growing alongside a family. Every session, I get to know them a little better, and the photos get a little more them. I’m so grateful to be part of their story, and the stories of every family who trusts me to capture theirs.

Do my photos have to be at a park? Nope!

St. Louis has SO many amazing options for unique sessions, and this one at the Central Library downtown might be my new favorite. Marble staircases, arched ceilings, gorgeous light... it's basically a castle that lets you check out books.

Here's the thing about non-park locations: they add personality. A park is beautiful and always a solid choice (I will never turn one down!), but when we shoot somewhere that actually means something to you, the photos start telling a story instead of just looking pretty. Book lovers, bring me to a library (I may get lost in the stacks). History buffs, let's do downtown architecture. Coffee shop family? Lattes on me!

This is the last chapter of high school, the season of “lasts” before a whole bunch of exciting “firsts.” This is exactly why senior sessions are one of my favorites—because we get to freeze this moment before it races by.

Here’s how to make the most of your session:
✨ Bring a couple of outfit changes so we can capture different sides of you
✨ Toss in a prop or two that tells your story right now—your guitar, your jersey, your car, your favorite cowboy boots.
✨ And most importantly? Show up ready to have fun. The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and just being yourself.
