Erica and John’s small wedding in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park this spring was nothing short of amazing. They put their own touches on their relaxed, perfect-for-them day. From reading their personal vows to each other before turning around for their first look, to a mountainside intimate wedding ceremony with their family surrounding them, to a picnic lunch, hiking, and epic mountain views, it was a day filled with love and happiness.

Updating my website and creating blog posts is NOT my favorite use of time. I'd much rather be out photographing everyone! But now that we are entering the off season, I plan to try to get caught up on some things in the coming months. Let's start with this beach wedding on this chilly day!

They 100% nailed it: When Carly and I first talked, she said that she wanted their elopement to be simple and about them, about love and being carefree. They had a simple wedding on the beach in Kitty Hawk, and then a toast with their two guests of honor at their beach house. Then it was back to the beach to take some special photographs of the two of them. As soon as their toes touched the water, any lingering nervousness from the anticipation leading up to their wedding ceremony vanished. They were truly carefree, just being themselves while walking on the beach, playing in the surf, living in the moment and soaking in all the love and joy of the day!

We are officially in beach wedding season now, and Carissa and Mo tied the knot in Corolla a couple of weeks ago! 😍 Since they are both beach people, they decided to get married on the Outer Banks with a few family members as guests. It was so much fun getting to spend this evening with them, from their beautiful ceremony to their seafood boil to celebrating with their loved ones. Stay tuned for more!

Having an intimate wedding or elopement means you value your day just as much as people who have big weddings. You just might be looking for something a little different than the traditional wedding experience. Maybe, like Carissa and Mo, you want a simple, stress-free day where you can relax and soak in every minute. Or maybe you don't really want to be the center of attention all day. A common thread among almost every couple I photograph is wanting to have a wedding experience where their love and relationship is the focus and they get to celebrate together in whatever ways are the most meaningful to them - doesn't that sound perfect??

Elopements and tiny weddings can be whatever you want them to be! When you start thinking about your elopement, brainstorm what would make it the best day ever: what reflects your values and relationship, your favorite things to do together, or things you've always dreamed of doing together? Who, if anyone, do you want to have join you? What season do you want to get married in? You can then start building your day around these things to create an experience unique to you. The cutest little ring bearer in the world, getting a high five after successfully delivering the rings. I'm still smiling from ear to ear about Katelyn and Holden's intimate wedding this week. ��Their families joined them for a simple ceremony on the beach. They got married during the week and had the place all to themselves! Afterward, everyone headed to the beach house for an evening of fun, relaxing, and food. I can't wait to deliver their gallery of photographs to take them back to this incredible day!

Andi and Bill love adventure and the outdoors, didn’t want any drama on their wedding day, and decided it would be fun to go and get married on the beach. They planned their destination elopement in Virginia Beach, where they've loved spending time together.

During a hilarious fake first look when Brandon turned around to see his friend instead of Jade in a wedding dress, everyone was laughing. And then a moving ceremony filled with laughter and tears as Jade and Brandon said their handwritten vows and committed their lives to each other, and sunset portraits where they could be in the moment with each other as everything else melted away.

When we were planning their elopement photography, one of the things Jade valued most was preserving their emotional moments. This looks different for everyone, so we talked a lot about what that meant for her and Brandon. Connecting with them in this way helped me document the moments and feelings that were the most meaningful to them, so that they can relive all of the happiness, love, and joy of their wedding day every time they look at their photographs.
