I just read something incredibly disturbing in a public newborn photography group. A photographer was asking for posing advice for a baby born missing a limb and referred to that child as a “deformity.”

As a photographer with over 23 years of experience, I was honestly shocked.

Every child deserves to be seen with dignity, compassion, and respect. A missing limb does not make a child a deformity. It is simply one part of who they are.

This is also a reminder that when choosing a photographer, don’t base your decision solely on price. Experience, education, professionalism, and compassion matter. The way a photographer views and speaks about the people they photograph matters just as much as the images they create.

What bothered me most was that this wasn’t said in a private conversation. It was posted publicly, without a second thought about the child or family being discussed.

A camera doesn’t make someone a photographer. Empathy, respect, and the ability to see the beauty in every person do.

Every child is beautiful. Every child is worthy. Every child deserves to be treated that way.
