I'm sure by now most of you have been inundated with photos and videos from the "America 250" event at Spencer. So I'm going to try to select some of my more creative ones to balance out the parade of roster shots.

This is my first attempt at posting something off of my relatively new Insta360 camera. I had Casey Thomason of Norfolk Southern walk out to the center of the turntable at the North Carolina Transportation Museum this past weekend to take a 360 Panorama shot of most of the America 250 locomotives parked at the roundhouse.

The only other non-museum, regular service Bicentennial relic that I had ever captured was Belt Railway of Chicago's MP15. Its seen here with other classic locomotives at the Clearing Yard engine tracks in May 1992.

More of my Midwest region railroad photos can be found on my Flickr album:

With Mega-Spencer III coming up next weekend, I decided to post a photo of a remaining Bicentennial relic that I captured in August of 1992 on the Allegheny Railroad just outside of Corry PA. The B&LE hopper was on the point of the Warren-Erie turn, immediately behind the motive power.

On March 28, 2001, I decided to do pursue a new photo angle that I had been contemplating for about a year. Decades prior, the Lehigh & New England RR had crossed the Lehigh River here at Palmerton, PA on a tall viaduct spanning the water gap. The bridge itself had been torn down long ago, but the abutments in the sides of the mountain remained.
If I recall correctly, I think I had driven from Allentown up to Lehighton, and found Norfolk Southern H66 either going on duty or else passing through the yard. I hustled back to Palmerton to perch myself up on the eastern abutment of the L&NE bridge, but had to park about a half mile way due to the tight clearances on the state highway going through the gap. I hiked up along the top of the highway's retaining wall with enough time to set up for the pix.
The train is running on the old Central of New Jersey main, with the Lehigh Valley main running on the opposite side of the river. During the early 1970's up to the Conrail merger, [the LV would send Allentown yard traffic down the CNJ].

Moment of "Do'h"...

On March 25, 2001, I photographed Norfolk Southern train 37Q behind the emissions building off of Mack Road in Allentown, PA. I immediately spotted the historical Erie Lackawanna covered hopper, and attempted to shoot a slide of it as well. Alas, I was at the end of the roll of film, and despite the camera snapping the shot, the slide came back hacked in half. What's worse, the sun came back out just as the car passed me!!! So this distant shot will have to suffice.

It was my intention to pace the preceding 2102 and its train with my bike as well. Unfortunately, it was moving faster, and snuck up on me before I could prepare myself. As a consolation, I shot cellphone video of it passing me.
