Sunflowers remind me so much of our relationship with God.
God designed every petal, every shade of yellow, and every tiny detail with intention. Nothing about a sunflower is accidental. Much like He designed us. And perhaps one of the most beautiful things about them is the way they spend their early days chasing the light.
As the sun moves across the sky, young sunflowers turn toward it. They follow the light, always searching for where it can be found. They remind me of us—how often we spend our lives searching, turning, wondering where we are supposed to go and where we will find the light we so desperately need.
But something changes as the sunflower matures.
It stops chasing.
It settles facing east—the direction where the sun rises. It learns that it doesn't have to spend every morning searching for the light because it already knows where the light will be.
And that reminds me so much of our relationship with God.
For so much of our lives, we search for something to fill us. We chase happiness, purpose, fulfillment, validation, and peace, constantly turning toward whatever we think might bring us light. But eventually, when we truly encounter God, we begin to understand that we don't have to keep searching.
Because He doesn't change.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
The light we were looking for was never moving around us—it was always Him.
And once we learn where the Light rises, we can stop chasing.
We can set our eyes upon Him and stay.
Just like the mature sunflower knows where the sun will rise each morning, we can know where to turn when the world feels dark. We don't have to wonder where He will be tomorrow. We don't have to chase after Him or fear that He will move away.
He will still be there.
So maybe the sunflower is a little reminder from God: Stop chasing so much. You know where the light rises.
Fix your eyes on Him. He loves you and cares for you.
And when you finally find the direction where the Light always rises, never leave it. đź’›
