Kite Aerial Photography (KAP) from Michigan's northern reaches. Outdoor adventures, high-flying exc My rig is home-built aside from a few key components.

I'm Nathan Miller, aka Nathan Invincible, and I suspend a camera under a kite using an automated rig that takes photos from tens to hundreds of feet in the air and at angles unreachable by planes or other devices. My kite quiver includes a 9ft Delta, 6.5' Rokakku, and a 7.5' Rokkaku. Kite Aerial Photography, or KAP for short, has a small but dedicated community found around the world. For me, this

hobby evolved out of throwing my camera into the air on a timer. I didn't get nearly as many cool shots, and in most cases they were too blurry to be proud of. If you're interested in having me photograph your property with my kite, send me a message or give me a call!

Hey everyone, long time no see! The recent warm weather we've had here in the U.P. has definitely slowed down safe ice formation for me to get out and fly my kites from. As much as I like to take cool pictures of remote lakeside locations, I can't do that as easily when there's inches of slush on the ice! Here's hoping this winter recovers soon so I can visit more neat places and share my photos with you.

Just talking about kites and photography with the owner of Da Beach Cabin. Sometimes I wonder how people recognize me out in the field, then I remember I'm flying a big colorful kite that's basically a flying beacon :D

The Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay sits docked at Chutes & Ladders in Houghton. The ship (and the service members on board) are probably enjoying a break after working hard around the Great Lakes this spring!

It's an up-and-down kind of day for flying a kite. One minute there's plenty of wind, the next there's too much, and then all of the sudden there's no wind at all! Beggars can't be choosers though, and when the Coast Guard is in town I gotta see what I can make of it.

I started doing kite aerial photography about 3 years ago. It's been a fun journey flying my kite across the U.P. and sharing my photos with you. There's just so much to see out there from a kite's eye view! Here's to another year down and a bright and sunny forecast ahead.

The answer to yesterday's Mystery KAP is The Keweenaw Land Trust's Boston Pond Nature Area. Located near the airport, this nature area has pavilion, a couple hiking trails, and an accessible trail leading out to a floating boardwalk. Stop by for a visit next time you're cruising up the Keweenaw!

Over the past couple winters I was able to fly my kites from the Portage Lake ice well into April... not so much this year! It's been a slow winter for me and a lack of ice had me grounded much of the season. With spring on the way I'll be out and about a bit more - look to the skies for more kite flying action soon!
