One year.

One whole year of watching her grow, discovering her little personality, and somehow wondering how twelve months could have passed so quickly. 🤍

This wasn’t just a cake smash.

It was a celebration of her — and of the family she was born into.

I had the sweetest honor of welcoming this beautiful family back into my in-home studio for their daughter’s first birthday. A repeat family who has trusted me to document their memories before, and now I get to watch their family grow right in front of my camera. 🥹

There were cake-covered fingers and little giggles, of course. 🎂 But there were also the sweetness of siblinghood, three little personalities together, and all those in-between moments that make up this fleeting season of motherhood.

Because someday the cake will be gone.
The tiny clothes will be packed away.
The baby cheeks will change.
And these little ones will be bigger.

But photographs let us hold onto the feeling.

The joy of having all three children together.
The beautiful, messy, ordinary magic of being a family of five.

That’s what I want my milestone sessions to be.

Not just photographs of a one-year-old, but photographs of your family right now.

The love.
The connection.
The chaos.
The little details you don’t want to forget.

Because the cake is only part of the story.

I’m so incredibly honored and excited to be able to share on my birthday that Amy Mitchell Photography has been named Best of Cville 2026 Runner-Up for Best Family Photographer! 🥹

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who took the time to vote, share, encourage me, and support my little business. It truly means more than I can put into words.

Photography has become so much more than a job for me. It is my passion, my creative outlet, and such a meaningful part of my life. Getting to spend my days documenting families, motherhood, connection, and all of those little moments that go by far too quickly brings me so much joy. I feel incredibly lucky to do this work every day.

A little wild, a little nostalgic, and completely theirs. 🤎

Documenting motherhood in a place that feels untouched by time.

An old Appalachian cabin. Wildflowers growing freely. Bare feet in the grass. Mountain air. And the anticipation of meeting the little person who is about to change everything.

For this maternity session, we leaned into movement, connection, and the quiet beauty of this season of life — from playful moments together to the slower, intimate moments of waiting for baby.

The years are long, but somehow the little moments pass in the blink of an eye. 🌻

One day, she’ll be too big to reach for your hand, too busy to twirl through a sunflower field, and these sweet moments will become cherished memories. That’s why motherhood sessions are so much more than beautiful photos—they’re a way to hold onto this season just a little longer.

This evening was filled with laughter, cuddles, wildflowers, and the kind of love that deserves to be remembered forever. These are the images your children will look back on years from now and say, “Look how much Mom loved me.”

Mamas, this is your sign to step in front of the camera. Your children won’t remember whether your hair was perfect or if you felt camera-ready. They’ll remember you.

A milestone session is so much more than a cake smash. In my home studio, we start by slowing down. We capture the giggles, the cuddles, the way your little one reaches for you, and all of the quiet moments that tell your family’s story. We celebrate the love you’ve poured into this first year before ending with a fun (and often messy!) cake smash that’s just as memorable.

These sessions are about so much more than frosting-covered fingers. They’re about preserving this fleeting season exactly as it feels right now—your baby’s curious smile, the way they fit perfectly in your arms, and the love that surrounds them every single day.

Because one day, the cake will be forgotten… but these moments never will.

Some stories are written in golden light. Others are written in the rain.

As the clouds rolled over the mountains and raindrops danced across the flower gardens, this sweet family embraced every moment exactly as it came. Umbrellas in hand, little feet splashing through puddles, laughter echoing through the mist, and two proud siblings already loving the tiny soul they can’t wait to meet.

There was something beautifully poetic about documenting this season—not perfectly planned, but perfectly real. The mountains stood quietly in the background as a reminder that even the stormiest days can hold the most beautiful memories.

Some love stories aren’t meant to be perfectly polished—they’re meant to be deeply felt.

Tucked away in a glass house, wandering through gardens, and drifting across a quiet pond in a rowboat, this editorial engagement session felt like stepping into another era. Inspired by the timeless romance of Wuthering Heights, every moment embraced wild emotion, quiet intimacy, and the beauty of imperfect love.

The lingering smoke of a cigar, weathered rope woven into the details, and stolen glances created a story that felt cinematic from beginning to end. It wasn’t about posing—it was about creating art that feels honest, nostalgic, and unforgettable.
