Little did I know then that the next 21 days would prove a learning and bonding experience not just for me and my son but our entire family...
The chicks, kept in a box in our kitchen, bound my family in ways that our annual trip to the beach never could. Even my husband found himself playing with them every evening. Soon they were too big to remain inside and we moved them to a temporary coop.
Occasionally, we would lose a chicken to a fox or hawk, so we converted our kennel into a coop with better protection for the roosters and chickens. Once the hens became comfortable (contrary to rumor, we do not have a hen masseuse), the first egg arrived! To celebrate, I took pictures and posted them on Facebook. The Eggs of the Day series was born...
As more eggs came, more pictures followed. I then began taking photos outside and it became a daily project for my husband and me. Soon, my friends began posting comments about my egg photos. I found myself not just taking a picture, but trying to take the best picture possible each and every afternoon. What began as a few pictures to review evolved to a 100-250 picture evening adventure. I discovered that an egg, nature's perfect container of hope, fit into any place I could think of to photograph it. I love to see what kind of shadow a leaf or a blade of grass will make on an egg or the shadows that the eggs leave when placed in a bank of snow. Everywhere I look I see somewhere to place or balance an egg! My car is never without my camera and my eggs because there is always an opportunity for another Egg of the Day photograph! Born in Syracuse, New York, Bridget Bresee Bryant was raised in Orange, Virginia where she now resides with her husband of 21 years, 3 sons, 8 hens, 1 rooster, 1 peacock, 2 dogs and a cat.
