“LA CIU•DAD” 2024

With the current U.S. political climate I thought this was the right time to share this. I had the opportunity to travel to Mexico for the first time in 21 years last year. As a DACA recipient, traveling to a place I’ve never known has always left a hole in my heart. As an immigrant I’ve felt the idea of the American Dream has slowly faded and lost its meaning. In a land of opportunity I’m always reminded of how I have to fight harder for an equal chance at that opportunity. Playing the part has helped me grow accustom to the idea of living on US soil, but missing a place I have not seen most of my life and being in a place where I’m not wanted leaves me in a state of confusion. Who am I? Where do I belong? This trip helped me reflect on a lot of things and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I know one thing for sure. A never ending journey of self discovery awaits me in my home country someday. For now we have to fight to protect those who love and protect Dreamers. 🇲🇽
