As many of you know...my Hasselblad 501 kit was stolen last year and THANKFULLY recovered from a Pawn shop shortly after the break-in and the person involved was arrested. It has been a very long 6 months for the camera/gear to be cleared for release and I was able to pick it up last week. Tomorrow Kim and I will be heading out to the mountains for a day trip and I am beyond stoked to be able to go to my local camera store once again and grab a couple of rolls of film and grab a few shots. Even if I don't wind up shooting...knowing that I have it back and ready to go if needed is such a great feeling. It's heavy, slow to focus, only shoots 12 exposures per roll and completely impracticable and I love every damn minute of it!!

It's been a while since I have posted from this page....I am hoping to change that soon....stay tuned!

Just finished a great video (have watched several times over the past couple of years) on YouTube called "One Roll of Film" featuring pro shooters in Japan who do street photography with Hasselblad film cameras & only 1 roll of film. Makes me miss the days of being picky with film (as it was/is $$ to process, contact sheets, scans, etc.) vs the simplicity of digital. I am glad I never sold my "Blad" and now I feel ithe need to run a roll or 2 through the old gal like the old days. Gonna have to get my Hipster on!!

Funny how things come full circle...by that I mean how there seems to be a resurgence in shooting with Film. I don't mean "hipsters" running around with LOMO cameras or a ju**ie 35mm camera to look cool, but rather I am seeing a lot of people using medium format (120mm). I am glad/thankful that my generation of photographers or older went through art school or self taught with "wet process" (film). I still have my Hasselblad 501 that I got brand new in 1996 and will never sell it....I'd actually sell my digital rigs before doing so!

I realize Digital will never go away and yes...I scan my negs but the "look" of film can never be replicated. I am not saying I am going back to film....simply put...it's too expensive, time consuming, and labs are not as plentiful & sadly nowhere near the quality as they used to be (aside from CREATIVE PHOTO- Fort Myers, Florida...Fantastic lab!)...with that said...I still get excited running a roll through the "Blad" every once and a while...only having 12 shots per roll makes you VERY cautious when shooting....no spray & pray!

I think I am going to have a retro shooting day coming up....by that I mean...drag out the Hasselblad camera and go attempt some discreet "street shooting"....my eyes aren't what they used to be for manual focus but hey...that's 1/2 the fun....yep...the Hassey, the Billingham bag & the "whatever...I'm a photographer" attitude....wish me luck!

I just read a very informative article on the "biz" of wedding photography that included several opinions, etc. from working professionals around the country and their take on past/current trends with photography. It is in the current issue of SHUTTERBUG and it's actually a very real perspective of what photographers in the wedding industry are facing and not a lot of fluff or unrealistic "blah blah blah" associated with most articles pertaining to the wedding industry I've read in recent times. If you are in the business and/or thinking of getting into wedding photography...check it out.
