Poplar + Pine Images by Katlyn Wedding + Documentary Style Storyteller ✨ Hey everyone Katlyn here! I am a midwest transplant, I was born and raised in central Kentucky.

Usually I'm the one coming up with games for the kids or trying my best to crack a joke with a big ol' camera pressed against my face. Yes I still have an accent - it comes included! I grew up mostly outdoors, on the farm, with little brown cows and a couple goats. My childhood was filled with muddy boots, cow cuddles, early morning barn chores - and I loved every second of it. I went to college i

n Eastern Kentucky in the foot hills of the Appalachians - where I majored in Animal Science. I met my husband there and we have been inseparable since our first moonlight hike in the mountains. In the Summer of 2019 we traded in our mountain views for the open plains and moved to Iowa. When I'm not behind the camera, I'm probably outside working on some sort of DIY project, or playing with our animals. We have two labs Jaxx and Cali, chickens, the occasional wildlife and hope to add some goats and horses to our ever-growing zoo - I mean farm.

By now you've probobaly figured out I love animals - who are always welcome in a session. My other passions include:

Being a Momma
Hiking
Local Wine & Craft Beer
Butter Pecan Ice Cream
Meeting New People

It was when we had our daughter, Karahline, in 2017 I discovered how much I loved the way I could use my camera to capture the emotions of a moment. It was at that point I started taking pictures of more than just my cows, and here we are today! I am definitely a visual story teller and prefer using "prompts" over "poses". We will have tickle fights, play music and rock out, or simply sway back and forth as the sun sets. To me photography is so much more than fantastic pictures on the wall, well it's partly that. I am not the stand in one place kind of photographer. I will work closely with you to plan a session devoted to capturing your families true essence, your "vibe" and your love story. I like to take the time to get to know each and every client and what their vision is. I am always up to meet for some coffee, grab a bite to eat or go for a walk. I am so glad you are here, and can't wait to work together!

XOXO - Katlyn

I am so excited to be apart of my first ever Bridal show at none other than the new Murphy Court in DeWitt!

While we technically live outside of town we call DeWitt home. It has become our community since moving to the Midwest. How cool is it that our little town has such a great business where locals can host their events and couples can get married 🥰

This is a free event so be sure to stop by and check out all the local wedding vendors, enjoy some live music, and of course grab a drink at the beautiful bar!

Emily + Joshua part II

On my way to their session I was running early and decided to do a little circle through Donahue to see if there was a spot that stood out to mix things up a bit. There’s not much in Donahue, but the little ball field with the giant grain silos stood out. So after our photos at the flower farm I asked if they wanted to change into outfit two and head to the park for the remainder of the session. The sun was doing its thing as we took photos in the grass but I felt drawn to the little baseball field so I asked if they thought photos in the infield with the grain bins interested them. They said heck yeah! We started walking that direction and I explained I did a little drive by earlier and saw these baseball fields with the silos and couldn’t shake the feeling they should be incorporated, I chuckled and said what would be the chances you both played ball. They smiled at me and go welllll we actually both do play and love this sport!

I swear sometimes fate just shows up in the most obnoxious in your face gloriously perfect way. These two were meant to be together and we were meant to take photos on the field that evening!

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding celebration in just a few weeks!

What if I told you your session didn’t have to feel stressful?

That’s it’s ok to let go of the idea of perfectionism and give in to moment.

You should leave your photoshoot saying wow I really want to do that again I had so much fun spending time with the people I love.

That’s what it feels like when you book a photographer who has honed in on the art of connection. It’s so much more than camera settings and nice equipment. It’s knowing how to make people feel safe. It’s guiding them through their own fears, doubts and stress and leaning into the things that fill their cup up.

Because when you unlock the power of emotional connection photos become so much more then the release of the shutter. They shift from a memory clouded with fear of not getting the perfect shot to one of remembrance to that afternoon you spent deeply rooted with the people you love most.

Presence. Love. Connection

I have loved seeing everyone’s posts about what they would trade for services. Let’s be real bartering will never go out of style and I happen to love bartering. So I thought I’d do a fun little video of the random things I’ve traded photos for - ENJOY😘

While we’re on the topic check out a few more things I’d happily trade services for ⬇️

- Esthetician services (fillers, facials, waxing)
- Spray tanning
- Massage
- Carpentry
- House Painting
- Tractor attachments
- Farm animals
- Concrete work
- Hay to feed my farm animals
- Supplies for my farm animals
- Lessons for my kiddos (guitar, dance, swimming, horseback riding)

I think it’s obvious I really like farm animals 🤣 but I’m open to proposals!
