Start of the second half of the year means busy, busy, busy around here. But the good kind of busy. 🖤

And somewhere in all of that chaos are moments like this.
That walk out of the search area with a Q. The leash is loose, the pressure is off, and both ends of it know they did the thing. A happy dog. A happy handler. A team that walked in together and walked out together.

These moments are fleeting. Sometimes they only last a few seconds before it’s on to the next search, the next run, the next goal.

But man, they’re worth capturing.

A little agility action while I work my way through a LOT of flying dogs.

Since this was my first agility trial, I’m also figuring out the best gallery workflow for a sport where I come home with approximately 847 million photos. 😂

Days 1 & 2 will be hitting the gallery tonight, with Day 3 fully up this weekend!

For agility, the images you’ll initially see are **proofs** They’ve received a light exposure correction and denoise so you can see the moment clearly and choose your favorites, but they are not the finished product.

Once purchased, that’s when I’ll give them the full Apex Visuals treatment. ✨ Proper color and lighting, detailed cleanup, cropping, distractions addressed where needed, and all the little finishing touches I normally put into my work. Your fully edited images will then be released to you for download.

This workflow lets me get thousands of agility images in front of you a whole lot faster without sacrificing the finished quality I want attached to my name.

You pick the moments. I’ll make them shine. 📸

Okay agility… I get the hype now.

My first agility trial is officially in the books, and I had an absolute blast.

I knew going into the weekend that agility was going to be a whole different challenge to photograph. Fast dogs, even faster decisions, and a lot of me trying to convince myself that I was, in fact, standing in the right spot.

There was definitely a learning curve, but that’s half the fun. Getting to challenge myself, figure out a new sport, and walk away with images like this made the whole experience even better.

I’m incredibly grateful to the Greater Fredericksburg Kennel Club for giving me the opportunity to photograph their trial and trusting me to jump into something new. And a huge thank you to everyone who welcomed me, chatted with me, and gave me the chance to capture their dogs doing what they love.

I went into the weekend hoping I’d enjoy photographing agility.
Turns out the answer is yes. Very much yes.

My camera roll and the number of photos I now need to edit may have some different feelings about it, though. 😂🤍
Safe to say, this won’t be my last agility trial.

There are so many fun moments from this weekend tucked into this gallery. Focused searches, determined dogs, handler celebrations, and plenty of personality in between.

I’ll be out photographing this weekend’s AKC Scent Work trial alongside RAD Photo LLC!

We’ll be splitting coverage throughout the weekend to catch as many teams, searches, and those little post-“finish” celebrations as we can.

A quick note on photos: RAD Photo LLC and I will be uploading and selling our images separately through our own galleries. We’ll each announce when our galleries are ready for viewing and purchase, so keep an eye out after the weekend!

Looking forward to another weekend of good dogs, good searches, and probably spending most of it crouched somewhere trying not to be noticed. 😂

Wowwwww. I am LOVING this new workflow. 🤩

I have been editing exclusively from my iPad for YEARS, which means I have also spent years playing the very fun game of “what can I delete so Lightroom will function today?” 😂

At the mercy of storage. Constantly moving things around. Occasionally doing a full reset because apparently editing thousands of photos, denoising, masking, and expecting it to keep up was asking a little too much.

Honestly, that iPad deserves a retirement party. She fought hard. 🫡

I’m still learning the computer workflow, figuring out all the little quirks, and occasionally staring at the screen wondering where the button went… but WOW.

The amount of freedom I have now to experiment, fine tune, and really dig into an edit without worrying about whether my device is about to wave a tiny white flag is incredible.

It feels like I just unlocked a whole new level of what I can do, and I am having way too much fun with it. 📸

There’s just something about the celebration after a clean run. 🥹

That moment right after they call “Finish!” and you’re both still completely in it. The excitement, the praise, the *we did it* between dog and handler before you even leave the search area. Those little celebrations are some of my favorite moments to catch. 🤍

A little something different for Apex Visuals this fall. 🍂

I’ve teamed up with a client to offer a, one-time group portrait opportunity at Monocacy National Battlefield on October 24th. The more “households” that participate, the lower the session price becomes for everyone.

Each household still gets their own private 30–45 minute Signature Session, so this isn’t a large group shoot. It’s simply a way to bring everyone together on the same day and take advantage of group pricing.

And with it being the weekend before Halloween, there’s definitely room to have a little fun with it. 👀 Think fall colors, costumes, color smoke, or other creative ideas if you want something a little different. Monocacy also gives us plenty of variety for more classic portraits with open fields, historic areas, trails, and fall scenery.

You absolutely don’t have to go the Halloween route either. Come for updated portraits, photos with your dog, action shots, or just because you’ve been putting off booking a session.
