Wrightsville Beach —> Cape Lookout, NC over the weekend.

We traveled 70 miles on Saturday. The ocean was semi-friendly.

We passed by a Spanish military ship and planes were taking off and landing. That was cool to see 10 miles offshore.

Coming through Beaufort inlet was a challenge as a marlin fishing tournament was wrapping up and all of the big fishing boats were flying in to make the time for weigh in… we crossed their path playing frogger. Got thrown around quite a bit.

But… we got lucky.

Had some engine trouble coming into Cape Lookout. By trouble, I mean it just quit on us. Jason did his best to fix it, without success. We had to call a tow into the anchorage. Had the engine died just 2 miles earlier, it would have been an extremely dangerous situation as those fishing boats were coming in at 30+ knots. (For reference our TOP speed is 7 knots..)

Now we wait for a weather window to be towed into a marina for repair…hopefully some day this week. Until then, we sit here.

Even though we have no engine, and the circumstances aren’t ideal… this is easily the nicest anchorage so far. The water is teal blue and clean, it’s quiet, and the temps are still in the 70s.

Last night in Carolina Beach, we took the tender to shore and had amazing homemade ice cream at Celtic Creamery then back to the boat for fireworks.

Quick trip this evening from Carolina beach to Wrightsville Beach, NC

One last trip out into the Atlantic tomorrow before we head into Cape Lookout. It’s all ICW after that to the Chesapeake. ⛵️🛟✌🏻

About last night…

The sunset was one of the prettiest I’ve seen.

However… our anchorage was rough. Very little sleep and LOTS of rocking back and forth. My Apple Watch registered exercise… while I was trying to sleep… 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Now in a much calmer mooring field in Carolina Beach. 🏖️⛵️🛟

Georgetown, SC ——-> Cape Fear, NC

We left early this morning before sunrise, about 5:30am.

FIFTEEN miles offshore, close to 14 hours and 80 nautical miles, we made it to Cape Fear, NC. Safely anchored off Bald Head Island.

The seas were friendly to us today as the swells were very minimal (at least up until about an hour outside of Cape Fear.. then it got dicey).

Not a lot to see, some flying fish, another Mylar balloon and more boat traffic than I expected.

Next stop, Carolina Beach tomorrow.

Took the dinghy to shore today. Walked around downtown Georgetown and had dinner. Cute little town but barely anything was open as there was a local wedding downtown and the businesses closed early for it. On the way out, we got a little too close to an alligator… 🐊 ⛵️🛟✌🏻
