Such a beautiful project. It reminded me more of my childhood in the midlands than a lowcountry property, despite being only 20 min from my home. What a transformation from a nondescript driveway and yard.

The Early College High School at the Wilmot J. Fraser Campus stands on the historic site of Columbus Street Elementary, built in 1957 on Charleston’s Eastside during the era of school segregation. The school was later renamed for educator Wilmot J. Fraser, who served as a teacher, principal, and district leader in Charleston County. After the elementary school closed in 2009, the campus was redeveloped and today serves a new generation of students earning college credit through Early College High School.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with these day to night transitions. They’re so satisfying.

Alongside commissioned work, there’s a lot that happens before the camera ever comes out. Observations, patterns, light studies, and projects that quietly inform how I photograph architecture.
I’ve started sharing that side of the work in an ongoing newsletter/photojournal called Depth of Field.
It’s a space for reflections on Charleston architecture, development, design trends I’m noticing, and photographs that feel worth slowing down for.
If you’re interested in how buildings are seen, not just shown, you can subscribe via the link in my bio.
