Jiu-jitsu is weird.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know. Every time I start feeling like I understand something, another layer appears and reminds me that mastery is still a long way off. It’s humbling, frustrating, fascinating, and somehow that’s what keeps me coming back.

Today I was proud to receive a couple of new stripes. They’re a nice reminder that progress isn’t always about feeling like you’re getting better. Sometimes it’s about showing up consistently, putting in the work, and trusting the process even when you feel completely lost.

A huge thank you to all of the coaches and training partners and . Every roll, every lesson, every correction, and every round of getting smashed has helped me improve. I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive community and excited to keep learning.

Now back to discovering all the things I still don’t know.

I saw a friend drinking from this mug recently, and I am super stoked that ahe let me trade one of my mugs to her for this one in return. I am not a fan of either man, but the absurdity of this image makes me giggle every time I see it Richard Nixon and Elvis Presley smiling like they just started a buddy cop franchise is still one of the most unhinged photos in American history.

In 1970, the King of Rock and Roll flew to the White House, flashed a belt buckle the size of a hubcap, and asked Nixon if he could help fight drugs. Nixon, who thought the Beatles were a Marxist cell, was delighted. Elvis walked out with an honorary federal narcotics badge.
