What a weekend. 24 hours of annual camping followed by 24 hours of recovering from my annual fall vaccinations.

If you've been here a while, you know I block off a whole freakin October weekend *intentionally* for a two-night family camping trip. I know, wild for a photographer to do this, but I never regret it for the intentional rest, unplugged in nature, and connection it gives me. Unfortunately it was condensed into just 27-ish hours thanks to incoming rain+wind conditions but still lovely. And we got clear enough night skies for the briefest time that I got to have some astro fun. Plus check out those wicked hurricane clouds hovering above the blue ridge.

But I suppose the silver lining to coming back early is I got more time to recover from getting my flu+covid shots. It's a doozy getting both in the same arm but in my mind, the logic works out lol. One trip to get jabbed twice. Done. Ready for my fall newborn clients!

With this Saturday being World Mental Health Day, this month being Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, the current news that make me rage, and honestly simply trying to be, and to raise, a good human in this world, I'm proud to support and donate my time to our local chapter's The Climb event last month. The Climb is the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness & understanding of perinatal mental health disorders.

How are we, my friends?? And my photog friends?! Are we *in it* now?

It's a Monday. I am in a matting frenzy, I'm responding to emails, I'm doing last minute prep for my art festival on Saturday, I would love to photograph my big pieces before they debut this weekend, and I'm gearing up for a busy October-Nov, after our annual fall camping trip over the long weekend. There's a lot going on soon but one of my non-negotiables is a full weekend unplugged with my boys before it gets really crazy.🏕️🍁 It's intentionally blocked off every year in advance and it's a decision I'm privileged to make since I work for myself.

My birthday's coming up too and all I want for it is to see your lovely faces at on Saturday 🥰 Come anytime between 10a-6p.

The first day of autumn has come and gone. I've poked around my son's dresser, checking for fall and winter clothing. I've lit the candles that remind me of cozy nights. I'm prepping daily for my art festival next weekend on October 3rd. I'm diving into this beautiful season with a heart bursting with excitement to create more memories for all of my clients.

I'm excited to see all of you, to laugh with you, to give you a moment to enjoy this precious time together, and to help you grab this life of chaos fully and welcome it all with open arms and big smiles.

It's the peeking out between her hand and the little cut on her arm. The need to do things independently. The love for paper dolls that will eventually fade as the years go by. The ability to fit where they can be contained and be happy. The waist propping while putting something away.

Loudoun County, fall is here and I felt it this morning on our walk to school. That chill in the air. The way the light's already shifting. W running back into the house for his hoodie.

If you've been thinking about fall photos -- the bundled-up kids, the cooler air, the coats and fuzzy hats -- now's the time to lock in your date before my October/November weekends fill up completely. Spoiler alert: weekends are almost gone. 🍂

Also I'm genuinely flummoxed that it's already mid-September though. How??

p.s. I can't wait to see this extended family again. Their session is going to be off-the-charts fun, as per usual. And this year, we're adding an *engagement session* into the mix! 😍🤭
