The little in-between moments are oftentimes to me, the most memorable ones. They are the moments we take for granted sometimes. And so, they're some of my favorite to capture and let happen naturally.

Like a big brother who very much wanted ice cream and wanted it *now*.
Or yes, the endless boogers getting sucked out (still doing this for my 6 yo).
The bed jumping, finger holding, hand holding.
Little soft glances at the baby in your arms.
Being handed a flower, which might feel second nature by now to receive.

But the thing is, none of these moments last forever.

The way their fingers wrap around yours change as their hands get bigger.
The pull of friends, independent play, fun activities,
all of which slowly pulls them in different directions.

Where they slowly expand their circle of life,
and you're still a big part but perhaps,
no longer as firmly at the center of it all.

I've been feeling this feeling of vastness lately, especially as summer inches closer. I look at my calendar and realize how the length of summer I get with him from 0-5 is slowly going to decrease from this point forward. And it feels somewhat like trying to keep the sand from slipping through my fingers.

A few wild facts to share for your Tuesday.

1. School's out in two weeks.
2. We're less than a week away from June.
3. Along those lines, DVP fall petites are releasing to the email list on June 1!

Comment PETITES if you want to get on my Petites waitlist.

And FYI, my October weekends are already semi-booked, both with full sessions with return clients, my big art festival, and personal events, so if you want a fall session, outdoors or in-home (pro-tip: you can do both if you choose in-home), I'm now opening my fall calendar up for new clients!

S N E A K P E E K

I can't remember how many times I looked at his nursery wall while my son nursed. Or held him in my arms looking out our glass door at my mother-in-law's peonies in my front yard while he babbled happily. There are so many little moments around my home, both our old one that we raised baby W in and our home now, that remind me of our little home together. I'll never forget them. And I'll always be grateful we have those photos together.

Your home is photogenic. Your home is beautiful, just as it is. It's where you held life together and where you're raising your babies. That makes it just the right place always.

....excerpt from my weekly Sunday newsletter.

I just keep blinking.

Yesterday night, it dawned on me that he'll be off to college in about 12 years. Just twelve. That moment took my breath away. For some reason, twelve feels so much closer now than when he was 0 years old.

And yet, there are moments still when I feel that ghost of a feeling of what once was. Like when he rests his head on my shoulder with his eyes closed, I can see his milk-drunk face when I look over at him. Or when he's reading on the sofa, I'll glimpse him out of the corner of my eye and see the toddler-him paging through baby books again

It's those little moments that put me in my feels, and to remember them again through words is another level of remembering. To capture those feelings on the days when I pause long enough to savor them. To look back through these countless, treasured memories I tucked away and cataloged in my cluttered brain. To have photos of us together during our everyday moments, and everything in-between scattered around our home and in my heart.

What do you think of when you're mid-blink?

And so, this is 40. πŸ”₯πŸ˜‰ To the best big sister in the whole wide world and the best Auntie D to my son. Here's to the next 40 years of growing and supporting each other.

Here you go friends, American Gothic, Quarantine Edition, Year 7.

Lost a shovel, gained a...latex hand? And yes, still carrying him πŸ’ͺ

For newcomers, I started this yearly project during the pandemic. Partly a parody on the painting, partly my spin on the quarantine porch photos, partly a fun way to document W's growth over the years. Enjoy this year's funny one. He posed himself 🀣

When you look back at these maternity memories taken in your home, you'll remember what your home looked like during that exact breadth of time. Your lives will have shifted and changed in so many ways throughout these years once your baby arrives but when you look back to this moment, you'll be glad you get to remember it all over again. πŸ₯Ή

Out of office until next week!

✈ I'm excited to return to the land of swamp monsters and sunny skies to meet this big brother's baby sibling.

So much love to my soccer coach hubs for holding down the fort more than once so I could be present for this family's maternity+newborn sessions. πŸ₯Ή
