Mothers....

Today is my mother's birthday. I would have to look, but were she still living, she may be 100 now. I lost her to cancer many years ago. I love restoring old photographs. I also colorized this photo as well.

So, Happy Birthday, Mother. I wish you were here, so we could celebrate. One day....

Back in the days of film...

Another pic of grandma with her horse. Two things I learned from this photo - where I got my love for horses and pearls! I mean, who wears pearls around their horses? Well, I probably would.

Anyway, this was a old black and white taken from the earlier cameras we used to shoot with as kids. I wanted to see how well it would restore. Some of the picture was missing from the top - no problem for Photoshop - and then the obvious color cast, which is often found on old photos.

It isn't as sharp as I would like, but much better and definitely worth keeping. In essence, the memory has been mended.

Wondering...

What I like the most about restoring old or newer photographs is wondering. Wondering what the occasion was that people were dressed up for like this photograph of my grandmother when she was a young girl. Was it her first dance? A prom? I wish I knew, but I never will. Nevertheless, as I repair the damage and in the case of this photograph, colorize, it gives me a chance to experience something of what she was like as the young person I never knew.

This photograph had a considerable tear down the middle, but Photoshop handled it beautifully. What the application is capable of doing never ceases to amaze me. I also wanted a border around the photo, so I added one matching the ribbon on the dress. Colorizing takes some time, but sometimes it is the best option on older photographs.
